Updating the iPhone 3GS to iOS 6.1.6

In 2014, the iPhone 3GS got it's last update, iOS 6.1.6. It did technically get 3 years of support because iPhone OS 3.0, iOS 4.0, iOS 5.0, and iOS 6.0 are major updates. Anyways, I like that it's on iOS 6 because of nostalgia. Nostalgia is just one of the many factors that contribute to the fun of collecting old tech. Also, the iPhone 3GS costed $32 so, stop saying I’m devaluing it. Also, I updated it so, I can jailbreak it easier.

@@Aperture2 Yeah, iOS 5, 4, and iPhone OS 3, 2, and 1 were all skeuomorphic. I chose iOS 6 not because of it being the last skeuomorphic iOS, but because it's much more better, useful, and functional that the others.

@@samsungfan2528 No. I think you have the iPhone 3GS mistaken with the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 is 3 years older, and can get iOS 10.

My previous iPhone 3G in white that had been modded had ran up to iOS 8.9.9 And had up to iso 10.3.3 beta when I had sold it while my previous iPhone 3GS in black ran up to iOS 9.9.9 then. Up to iOS 10.3.3 when I had sold it

@danoob4 I know it’s not new. It was released in September 19th, 2012 but, the final iOS 6 update, iOS 6.1.6 came out on February 21st, 2014.

Yeah. The iPhone 3GS was able to get iOS 6 but, it couldn’t get all of the features

@@jayster3.0 And it also didn't get all of iOS 5's features such as Siri. Siri was introduced in iOS 5 but was only available on the iPhone 4[S]. Siri on iOS 6 was available for the 4[S] and the 5. Suprisingly there's a jailbreak tweak to get the iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 to have Siri.

@@Aperture2 the reason I have my 3gs on 6 is for app compatability and because assistive touch doesn't exist on ios 4 and my home button is broken on my 3gs. I know I could buy a replacement but I just use activator gestures but without assistive touch I cannot even jailbreak it lol. ios 5 I do have blobs for but I can't downgrade to it because the lack of home button makes it painfully impossible. That is why I stick to 6.1.6 and use activator and bunch of other tweaks to make me able to live without a home button. for referance I use this 3gs still as my daily driver.

i have a 3GS, however since it had a previous owner it has a passcode, oh and recovering it with itunes didn’t work, it would always say “This device was previously in DFU mode however had restarted and is no longer in DFU mode” even if it was still in DFU mode

You have to type in your iCloud account and password. And if you have a newer device, you have to allow the old iPhone permission to your account on the newer device and then get the verification code and retype the password except combined with the verification code on the older device

You’d have to unofficially update an iPhone 3G to iOS 6. The iPhone 3G supports iOS 4. The 3GS on the other hand supports iOS 6.1.6. I think you can use a software on a Mac called WhiteD00r6 to update the iPhone 3G to iOS 6 if you want.

No. I think it should stay on iOS 3.1.2. It’s pretty rare to find one on iOS 3.1.2, and I think it would be a great flex.
