I had the last Seat on a helicopter scheduled to fly out to the USS Guam later in the day. I was speaking to an officer àbout getting the last seat on the last chopper flying out later that day. Later that day the officer was looking for me calling out my name and found me . Put his hand on my sholder and told me he bumped me and took my seat on the chopper. I was pissed. Later that afternoon I heard the helicopter crashed and he was killed. He saved my life and died doing it. I will never forget him. I would have been dead at 21. There’s one story I have that I still think about because it makes no sense how it could’ve happened. Back when I was in boxing before we’d head back to our gym our coach would send us to run 3 miles out in the orchards. I would be one of the leaders in the front and about 1.2 miles out into the fields there would be this empty opening of land with just the road and no trees. I remember I was running in the dirt trail next to the road by myself because I had distanced myself enough from the group behind me and a few who were too far in front. I had my headphones in and didn’t hear any cars or anyone close to me when it felt like someone pushed my shoulder, I shook off the feeling thinking my hair just accidentally brushed my shoulder until it happened again except this time it was a shove. I turned around and even said “who the hell-“ when just as I did a car came zooming down the street extremely close to the side of the dirt where I was running. Had my shoulder not be pushed and caused me to turn to the side it would’ve hit my entire right side of my body. I remember standing there for a good while looking around because there was absolutely no one around or near me when it happened.

The first night after I bought my house in LA, I woke up to the sound of water running in my backyard. The sprinklers weren't supposed to be running that early, so I turned on the light to my back patio and saw a young, naked, redheaded woman using the garden hose to bathe herself. She screamed and stammered apologies while dressing herself and running off without most of her things. I guess she'd been using my backyard's covered patio for shelter before I bought it.

I was once in an open field at night and decided to turn off my torch to enjoy the stars for a moment. After looking at them, i looked back down to see what i thought were rocks, turned me torch back on to find a flock of sheep, which got startled by my jump and proptly scarpered. This happened yesterday, i was cooking breakfast (in the afternoon) and i opened the kitchen window so the smoke could air out. My mother keeps a little wooden plank with the 10 commandments on the window seal, the whole time while i was cooking, it stayed still as it should. As soon as i was done and walked out of the kitchen, i heard a loud crash and went in the kitchen to find the plank on the floor facing up. I figured the wind knocked it over so i closed it and put the plank back. As soon as i left the kitchen it happened again, i walk back in and see it on the floor in the exact same spot facing up. It freaked me out a bit so i set the plank on the table and nothing else happened

When I was in college there was one year that everything was super weird. There were a lot of little things but the hardest to explain one’s were 1. Multiple reports of a woman singing in the communal bathroom when no one was in there. 2. Every night at exactly 2am someone or something would bang frantically and loudly on my neighbors dorm room door but no one was out there. When I asked her about it she said she thought it was coming from my dorm. 3. One time I walked by a professor and she smiled at me and got into her car, when I got into the building that was about a football field distance away from where she’d gotten into her car I passed the same professor coming out of an office and she smiled at me and walked out of the building. 4. There was a day I was talking to my friends in the cafeteria and I was trying to figure out which celebrity this guy reminded me of. I couldn’t think of the celebrity’s name so we just moved on. Later my roommate, who hadn’t been present, texted me and asked why I’d written Tom Cruise on our white board. I hadn’t been back to our dorm yet aw we’d just left the cafeteria but that was the person I was trying to think of and it was in my handwriting somehow. I didn’t drink or do drugs so I legitimately have no explanation.

Uncanny Valley explained. Thousands and thousands of years of human evolution where competing human species came into contact often. Even competing groups of the same species. Not necessarily, other species in the human genus skulls and reconstructed faces don’t trigger the uncanny valley, nor does another persons face. There’s probably something else out there we don’t know about. Especially considering the fact that it’s one of the main and largest driving forces behind our fear responses. Seeing something that triggered it had to mean VERY BAD NEWS for previous humans, not necessarily just death. Fear isn’t just a safety mechanism against death either, for example, there are natural fears triggered by a lack of resources, which meant bad news for our children historically, or even just discomfort in some instances.

Not only that, but our brains put so much effort into face identification in the midst of messy data (think identifying that there is another person through a stand of leafy trees where you can only just see their face), and part of that is identifying sets of patterns that reliably occur together. So when some of those face patterns appear without others our brains pick up on it but cant necessarily immediately identify the discrepancy. The more of the face-patterns that are seen, the more any missing patterns throw up mental red flags while simultaneously they might be harder to explicitly notice. Good example is a person who's missing their eyebrows. Immediately noticable that something is off, but some people might have trouble pointing to what without thinking about it for a bit.

I find it fascinating that on one hand, there's the fear that every single action you make is important, and could cause terrible things to happen. On the other there's the one where nothing you do matters and you won't be remembered.

The story with the porkchop made me think of my brother. He's choked on food twice. Once we were in a store (Bradley's or KMART since thing like c that) my grandmother's sister was visiting and have him a hard candy she had bought as we were leaving and it lodged in his throat and needed cpr. I think he was 4 or 5. The other time was when we got mozzarella sticks, about the same age. Just kept chewing and it stretched more and more, then he was gaging... mum did cpr again. Even now almost 40 years later I don't walk with candy or cough drops and cut my mozzarella sticks

The waterfall story is almost exactly what happened to me a couple years ago, except that I was able to surface several times and gasp in a small amount of air before being shoved back under the surface by the force of the waterfall. I yelled for help twice during brief periods of time when my head was above the surface and my friend heard me and I heard him say "Huh?" before I went under again. I got away much like the person in the story, by kicking the rock wall as hard as I could, which propelled me downstream. Afterwards I asked my friend why he didn't do anything when I called for help and he was completely oblivious that I had been in any danger. He had been standing on a rock ledge beside the water that close enough to reach out and touch me, so he could have helped me get out of the water when I was having my near drowning experience, but instead he just stood there and watched and apparently thought my thrashing around in the water looked funny. I didn't go swimming with him again until over a year later.

Years ago I worked at a clinic, often late into the night. Although it was in an upscale, beautiful location with buildings that couldn't have been more than ten years old, this particular facility felt a bit creepy & isolated even in the day time. It wasn't unusual to be by myself for significant periods of time. To say this place was active w/noises & weird movements where there were no living things, is an understatement. Countless times stuff would show up in strange locations, movement & voices could be heard in empty rooms & doors would shut by themselves. But it wasn't until I informed whatever it was that I was not afraid of it & said the particular Name of the Deity I believe in that a door right in front of my face promptly slammed by itself. That is just one story I have about that unusual place. And I wasn't the only one to work there that experienced such things.

I have decided that it was a dream, because the only memory that I have of that house other than how it looked from the front is an overhead view of the main room with my parents packing up bags and me playing with a remote control car holding my favorite stuffed animal, a leap frog "scout" plush (the green dog). 1:42:05 Living in a haunted house My current roommate's home was... for a time, haunted by something that tormented her cats. Mostly late at night, long after any guests had left, and this was before I moved in. So one night I'm over, helping her with things. We're chatting in her room when I noticed strange shadows passing over the window. I'm frowning at them for a bit before mentioning them to her, and she mentioned her haunt. And that she'd tried burning sage (not the spice used for eating, I found out, and it stinks), but that didn't do more than shut it from her living spaces, and left it free rein in her attic. She hired a shaman, and he got rid of it for her. Not sure why, but the haunt didn't cause me any fear. When I noticed it casting shadows, I was puzzled by them, but not scared, not creeped out. Of course, this means I didn't look appealing to it, as I wasn't giving off any energy for it to feast on, good or bad. The reason this surprised me was because I've worked in a haunted movie theater, and that was unsettling. Mostly made me not feel well if I spent too long in a certain space I needed to spend time in to build the prints. Headache-y, mostly. One night my fellow closing manager, the only other person still there, needed to open the next day. I still had things to wrap up before I could go, but told them to go ahead and leave, get that sleep for opening. Once I was alone, and just outside the haunted room, I heard the buzz of one of the projectors in the haunted room trying to start up and failing. Good jump scare, let me tell you! Whipped my head around and had clear line of sight to see... nothing. That was the last time I stayed there alone late at night. I'd been warned about the haunt before my transfer, but not until after I agreed to transfer.

37:04 Regarding the muscle counting great white encounter guy saying "If it gets me, it gets me. I can't out swim it." People react differently to different situations. Couple months ago I was the eye witness to a shooting. My friend gave me a mock psychological evaluation and had me go over the whole situation to see where my head was at. He was surprised to say the least. My brain went into "be as useful as possible. If I'm shot it's not guaranteed death, i can still be useful. Capture as many details as you can. Clothes, age, gender, race, height, weapon, anything said, when and where." What I didn't know was how lucky I am because yes, if the shooter turned he would have seen me but that's not why. There were two more shooters firing back and those shots landed where I was standing. Any outside thoughts I had were "I'm so glad my fiancee isn't here." The thing that messes me up about it was they were kids. Don't get me wrong, in the moment if I'm the one in a kill or be killed situation, I don't care if it's a kid. The only difference is if it's an adult, don't hold back and immediately go for lethal wounds. If it's a kid and I have the option and time, either incapacitate, blind, deafen, restrain or break bones, preferably arms, legs or ribs. All that said, I'm a pacifist.

I kept looking at him and I remember getting very uncomfortable any time he was on screen. Something felt very off about that guy but I couldn’t quite explain why. Later when I learned how the movie was made and he in fact was not a real human, I felt relieved because my instinct was right, I just couldn’t quite explain the feeling, and didn’t know there was a specific term for it. Creepy.

My sister years ago had such little gas in her car once she got home and said "okay, before we go to lunch tomorrow, we need to go get gas. I'm like right on E." In the morning, she turns the ignition on and lo and behold, there was a quarter tank in her car. She, to this day, harps about how creepy this was. Little did she know, I snuck in her car early that morning and got her gas to go see my boyfriend for breakfast. I was a stupid kid.

The uncanny Valley also helped prevent breeding with people with genetic disorders. Made us keep our distance from corpses, and a couple other things. I still like the idea of a mimic predator but I know that's not the case.

Not my story, but adjacent: Every year a bunch of students at my school go up to a camping ground for a three day camping trip, and on the second night, in one of the girls cabins, in the middle of the night, a random person entered the building, opened the door to one of the rooms, stood there for around 10 seconds, and then slammed the door and left. A lot of the girls in that cabin were traumatised, and no one knew who it was

1:21:45 Human-like looking, but something's wrong with it/them This was mentioned in the movie "Mimic." Where one person asked another, "Well why haven't we seen [these huge-butt bugs] before?" The doctor replied, "I think we have..." Overlayed a few of the photos and showed a human-face-like mask. "...we just didn't know it." Enjoyed the series, as they've done several movies based on these bio-engineered bugs we designed to wipe out a disease. They were supposed to have a very, very short life cycle, a few months at most, then die. Instead, they evolved into human-sized bugs that could walk around in decent imitation of humans walking around... It's a creepy but also cool mythos they built up. Not just the first one, but the other two I've seen. Not sure if they've done more. Really do recommend...!

Worked at a cinema for a bit. One day I was in concessions when behind me I head the tongs we used to get the pretzels out of the oven hit the ground. I turn around and saw them. Where they were lying seemed to be in an odd spot for them to have just fallen off the oven because they were closer the counter where we gave the customers their food. Didn’t think much of it and threw them in the dish pit. Found out that those tongs have been known to fly off the oven all the time. One time going over the counter into the lobby. One time they even went back on the cameras and sure as shit, they just flew off for no reason. Managers who had to close the theaters down for the night would constantly hear footsteps in one particular theater when they would go in. Come to find out there had been a guy who had died in that theater. Ushers found him after the movie, thought he was sleeping and tried to wake him, but he was on that eternal nap shit. Another guy had a heart attack walking down the stairs and died on the way to the hospital.

1:07:50 I swear everytime I check the time it’s 9:11. If I sleep in, I wake up at 9:11, it can’t be a coincidence if it’s every time. my clock-in number for work is 0911. I check my hours for the day, boom! 9hrs 11mins. It’s freaky.

2:19:09 Trophy Buck in Montana (did you keep the meat?) Ah, Montana! Been there many times to visit ranch-owning cousins who live just outside of Billings. Figures that the creepiest time EVER in Montana would be the one time I'm passing through, driving solo. It's late afternoon and about halfway through the state on a highway framed by farms/ranches, without any exits or way stations to pull into. Been looking for one or the other for a few hours as the sun grows low in the sky, as I've been counting the death smears (what's left of road kill when the bodies aren't left behind). I'm over 149 of them when I lose count shortly before night fall, with a storm in full rage before me. Including lightning. Oh boy, I really didn't want to drive into that... But no place to pull over, and I'm not dumb enough to trust shoulders I can't see. I drive into the storm, and have to drop down to TEN MPH. Because the rain isn't heavy, it's a wall of water. No other cars on the freeway, but it's still terrifying. When lightning rips through the sky, the entire world goes white. Not an exaggeration, wish it was. I stopped dead every time this happened, and for those moments, I'm glad no one else is sharing the road with me. Means no chance of being slammed into by someone using more speed than brains. This happened dozens of times. I've got very white knuckles, and I'm wound up very tightly. FINALLY, the storm eases, or I drive out of it, and I find a way station to pull into. l spend the rest of the night there, slowly recovering. When I wake up in the morning, I get out to use the bathroom and discover the front of my car, which only yesterday covered in a thick mat of bugs, is washed clean. Remembering how freakin' hard it can be to scrub off bugs from the car, I'm impressed all over again by how hard it was raining. Second scariest solo driving experience was going from WA to AZ... and on a back highway (87, I believe) finding it does switchbacks, has only a few inches of shoulder before dropping away farther than I can see at dusk than I'm comfortable with. That is only because the semi-trucks literally FLYING past in the other direction cause my whole 16' moving truck to shudder from the wind-wakes of each. After the first, as it's growing darker, I just stopped dead and let them fly past, refusing to let my driving be thrown off by their reckless progress. Finally, after at least a couple of hours of this, I go through a small town. But as it's late, they are all buttoned up for the night, and I drive on to Flagstaff. For those who don't know, Flagstaff, Arizona actually has all four seasons, and this is the last few days of February, and there is snow and ice on the ground for the first time since I left Washington state. (Barely left WA ahead of a severe snow storm. The hotel desk staff told me if I was planning to go north, to reconsider; the pass I'd just driven through the night before was snowed shut. As I was going south...) So the next morning, as I'm leaving Flagstaff (ha, tire blew out and cost me HOURS on the road spitting distance from where I slept!), I realize that the reason I couldn't see the base of the trees on that stretch of highway was they were sloping down into the Grand Canyon. I finally get close to such a major landmark, and pass it in the dark, never even seeing a hint of it.

This is my story, but my sister experienced this all. When she was about 4 my step cousin (6) had tried to r4p3 her. I despise him to this day and he made her watch it on her tablet aswell. When he got confronted he said she made him do it. Years later she’s 9 years old and we had just moved to a new house and she was playing on the playground our neighborhood had. This man started taking pictures of her from a distance where houses were being built she ran inside and we got his license plate(we had to chase him down)and called the police. The cops had said they know who it is and weren’t worried about it.. :/ 2 years later Shes 11 and our new neighbor had just moved in, he was very sweet and he was the step dad of 2 kids and ig he’s married to their mum but idk? One day she was out by the garage door and he tells her to come to him so she does bc we trusted him, and he asked her if she wanted to see his camera, which is already creepy she says sure ur I need to ask my dad first. And he said noooo! It’s ok. He went to his car and she was scared and ran into our house. He still lives by us to this day and his family is very weird. He never talks to us and, ripped our American flag down and put it in the garbage, (our houses are very close btw) and he left his window open and my dad saw him watching p0rN. Just sitting there watching it. He’s very weird and at night makes growling sounds… (he also stole our neighbors cat, put the cat in his car and would come out of his house to feed it, and btw he knew their cat was “missing” haven’t seen their cat since..) …
