Woody is literally aiming left a tonne accentuating his slice. Couple of lessons will sort him out nicely. This course is clearly also nice and short. Good for confidence building. My local is 6,700 yrds off the yellows.

Yeah think this course is about 6000-6200 yards so on the slightly shorter side. Although probably about average in UK I’d say (of the courses I’ve played anyway)

Watching you both helps me understand more about my high handicap. Woody, you're doing the same thing I'm doing! Over shooting the hole with your putts. I'm trying to see if I can imagine a three foot circle around the flag. Hit it close to the pin will save more putts. Putting is my worst enemy! Thanks for sharing and showing your match! Now it's time for me to get out and play 18! Hoping I can break 100 today, but it will likely be closer to 110.

im subscribing, I was once a 9 handicap, and past captain at my local club, I took 15 years off, started playing again at age 60, I still use my fg17 Wilson blades I might change soon but have a ping i5 driver, im starting to hit the ball better of the tee, short game is rubbish, putting is generally rubbish, but im getting there, but I can still play the bunker shot well ill get better currently 28.9 handicap, ill keep you guys updated on my progress

Luke, on your 3rd hole, 3rd shot with the 60 degree wedge - leave all of your weight on your front foot. You don't need power for that shot, leaving all weight on the front foot within 60 yards will help with consistency.

Mr Woody, have you tried using a full swing?, reminds me of the old dudes I used to play with.. I started by hitting the heads of the dandelions in the lawn at home. Helped with my hand eye coordination, and if I did take a divot either before or after the flower I was aiming at, apart from Dads wrath, I could see the path of my swing.. Just what helped me bro.. But you cannot beat practice and time on the course. Good luck!!

Like a few people have mentioned the left set up woody has is massive . Promoting more slice. It’s gonna slice that much it will come back like a boomerang soon ! Lol Seriously though if he’s only been playing a year now is the time to get rid of it , because the longer he plays like that the harder it will be to make changes as he will be so comfortable playing that way any changes will just feel wrong .

Club face angle determines the direction the ball starts out at. If the ball curves after the start that indicates swing path. Swinging from out to in will produce the slice curve and swing path from in to out will result in the draw curve ball flight.

Sorry, but I think you have it backwards. Actually, the swing path dictates the initial ball direction, and the club face angle dictates the curvature. For example (for a right-handed player), a pull-slice is caused by an over-the-top out-to-in swing path coupled with an open club face, which will start to the left but then curve to the right. Conversely, if you have the same out-to-in swing path with a square club face, you will just get a pull with no curve.

30 handicapper - your alignment is so far to the left you are set up for a slice. Try using some alignment sticks down the range. It will help.

Actually to be precise club face open relative to the path results in a slice. Let me give a example. If a swing path is 5 degrees from out to in and the face is only open 3 degrees to the target, that looks like it's closed to the amateur but because of the 5 degrees out to in swing path it means that the face is actually open 2 degrees to the swing path. Which will result in a right curve.

Woody, your aiming 40 yards left on every shot causing a glancing blow with an out to in path and an open face, it's costing you distance and creating that big slice, square things up, I'd take a few lessons if you can to sort that setup you could half that handicap.

IMO I think you gave a bit too much of an advantage to the 30 handicapper here. In a normal 18 hole match the 30 handicapper would receive 10 strokes per side from a 20 handicapper. That means the 30 handicapper would receive a stroke on 5 of 9 holes on each side. That is just slightly more than a stroke on every other hole. I think a more fair adjustment here would have been to give the 30 handicapper a stroke on 2 of the 4 holes.

Well I looked at the SI ratings for the holes and in an 18 hole match he would have got a stroke on those holes so decided he could in this match. It worked out anyway 👍

Woody take a narrower stance when trying to play a chip shot pal not even giving yourself a chance. Play more 9/8/7 bump and run shots with a putting stroke watch your scores come down. Sort your grip out a bit as well, turn your left hand over more show all 4 knuckles wrap over your right then feel like you’re swinging the club on a path to the right and your body exiting left bye bye slice then watch it draw !
