I followed your workflow successfully, but I recommend that instead of deleting the old UNIFI container immediately, since it is already disabled and have a backup of the data directory, to leave that as a backup and install the new container. Once you confirm that the new installation is functioning properly then delete the old one.

Hi Tony, thanks for the video - great work! Two things can maybe be added to your content. Making a backup of your unifi settings would be good idea - you never know... Second thing is that it is even easier to manage your containers with Portainer. There the container is updated with only some clicks without creating the container again. I updated my unifi container with this method quite often without any issue. Greetings from Munich, stay healthy. Karl

Hey Karl, thanks for commenting. In this case, the data folder was not deleted as it lives outside the container, just the container with the image. If the data folder resided within the container, then yes. That’s interesting about Portainer, going to have to check that out. Thanks so much. Stay safe!

I think you could just clear instead of delete. Then download the newest :latest image then restart. That would work if you were running the :latest orginally.

@@QuikTechSolutions This is what I did. I created a backup, but I cleared the container after shutting it down, then after I dowloaded the latest from jacob, I started the container back and my settings were still intact.

Hi Tony, thanks for this video. Do you have a video on how to migrate a unifi controller config file that is running on a Mac to the controller running on Synology docker. In other words.... stop using the controller on the mac.... thanks

So my question... can u use the unifi security cam on it so the recording will go on the nas?

Hi and thanks for commenting. Unifi cams only work with Unifi Protect and the older, no longer supported Unifi Video. I believe at one time Unifi Video was able to be installed on Synology using a Docker container. Not sure this is possible anymore since the software is no longer supported. Unifi cameras will not work with Synology Surveillance Station. Have a great day!

I wouldn’t trust a container put together by stranger especially one that’s built for the UniFi Network App. That’s all kinds of crazy from a Security standpoint.
