Dennis takes a look at Incra's entry-level miter gauge, the V27. It's a big improvement over the stock miter gauge that comes with most table saws, and doesn't cost a fortune. Check it out at: thewoodsmithst...

*4 adjustment points, great video. Just picked one up and already love it!

That is terrific news! Thanks for the compliment! We wish you lots of luck and fun in the shop!

I have this miter gauge. It is wonderful. I recommend it. Denis, thanks for showing us how to square up the miter gauge. That was helpful. I did it a few minutes ago and it was slightly out of square from the factory. It was very easy to square it up.

Great video. I just bought one today snd there's actually four of those expansion screws to stop the sideways movement, there's another under the protractor.

I've had this gauge for years and added an Incra fence. I've never considered upgrading to any of the expensive new models out there now.

I have this miter gauge and it works as well as Dennis says it does.

@@thewoodsmithstore Sadly, since I work at a Woodcraft store, I didn't get mine from you guys.

I got mine on Amazon, but they sent the one with metric degrees instead of imperial, so I had to send it back.

just going to play devil's advocate here and ask something that bothers me. How do you set an angle that is adjacent to the indents with any accuracy? There is no reference line, or flip out vernier like they have on the 1000SE for example. This seems like a major oversight if you ask me (the cynic in me suggests it was done on purpose?). If I buy one the first thing I'll have to do is fabricate my own, otherwise it will push my OCD into overdrive!!!
@thomascooper66799 ай бұрын
This was EXACTLY my very first thought when I watched this: what do you do when your angle lies between the notches? I guess you are on your own and have to eyeball it. I hope Dennis comes back with an answer.
@thewoodsmithstore9 ай бұрын
You are correct on a couple counts. If the angle required is beyond the detents, you'll have to set it visually, perhaps check the adjustment using an angle finder and make test cuts. If you need more flexibility than the V27 allows, the 1000SE or HD might be a better value for you. I have the HD in my shop! For the 1000SE: thewoodsmithstore.com/product/incra-miter-1000-special-edition/ For the 1000HD: thewoodsmithstore.com/product/incra-miter-1000-hd/ Thanks! -Dennis

Bought one from Amazon. They just chucked it in a box with no padding. Plastic had fallen off etc. so delicate tools try a good source.

I've stopped buying tools from Amazon. My DeWalt driver went directly to the repair shop and so did my Makita sander. Both covered under warranty but so annoying.

Great stuff! Very timely as I just purchased the V27. Question: What are the specs of your fence? Oh! I'm a newbie. Thanks much!~
@thewoodsmithstore8 ай бұрын
Hello! Thanks for coming here and watching our video! The fence that Dennis uses on the V27 is made of 3/4" baltic birch. 24" long by 3" high. Cut a 1/16" x 1/16" kerf on the front face for dust relief. Hope this helps!

The Incra 1000HD is also an excellent miter gauge and actually is my first choice where money isn't an issue. The V27 offers most of the same capability, but at a more affordable price point. Thanks for your comment!

Looks like a decent miter gauge with the exception of a sticker for the protractor.
@thewoodsmithstore2 жыл бұрын
Because the pawl on the end physically engages the detents on the metal portion of the protractor, the sticker is really just there as a visual indicator. The accuracy is built into the metal parts of the miter gauge. That being said, the sticker holds up well and we haven't had any issues with it in our shop.

If you need to reposition the fence to be 90 degrees from the blade, doesn’t that screw up the 90 degree detent in the miter gauge? Seems like that would need to be adjusted too.
@thewoodsmithstore2 жыл бұрын
The detents are fixed and there's no need to adjust them. Essentially, you are aligning the fence to match the 90 degree detent.
@SpicyTexan64 Жыл бұрын
The 90 degree detent doesn't know or care what angle the fence is at. Adjusting the fence to the blade ensures that that 90 deg position is actually 90 degrees.
@stevesiefken6432 Жыл бұрын
@@thewoodsmithstore Yea but you are assuming the miter slot is EXACTLY parallel to the saw blade which may not be true. In these cases, is there no adjustment that can be made to compensate?
@thewoodsmithstore Жыл бұрын
@@stevesiefken6432 No, I am not aware of any miter gauge on the market that will compensate for a misaligned saw. If the blade is not parallel to the miter gauge, you will need to adjust your saw first and get everything aligned.
@DepakoteMeister2 жыл бұрын
If you want 90 degree crosscuts, your fence should be 90 degrees to the mitre slot, blade angle is irrelevant.
@thewoodsmithstore2 жыл бұрын
If your table saw is set up and adjusted correctly, the blade should be parallel to the miter slot. You can then set the miter gauge fence 90 degrees to the blade or the miter slot. I just find it easer to use the blade as a reference.
