Upgrading a Traxxas Hoss part 3 Motor fan and Hobbywing Max 10 SCT

Thank you for showing how to solder the bullet connectors, and for putting links to purchase! I'm new to soldering, and was wondering how people are using the Hoss motor with this ESC. I'll probably use a soldering Iron, but the torch does look fun.

​​@@OverBudgetRCdoes the hobbywing ESC work good with this motor I have a 120 amp spectrum ESC that's 4s capable 2400kv rated and it gets hot as hell but it also has the wires running off the ESC. for the spectrum motors they have shorter wires coming out of them which I know are part of the coil is that why it doesn't like the motor because the coil wires coming out are so long on the Traxxas motor when I go to go the slowest the truck will go is 8 miles an hour I'm literally at a loss for why it's doing this I've geared it all the way back to stock and it still goes just as fast I had a 50 spur 19 pinion now it has a 54 spur 14 pinion

Nice I think ima get one for my rustler 4x4 vxl because the vxl system in it over heats a lot I have two protec fans on the motor and it still over heats lol

Welcome to the hobby. I changed the speed controller so it can run 4s the stock ESC can run 3s. So I just wanted more power and this one can be tuned to change the punch which is how hard it can accelerate and you can tune other items too. Also the reliability is better I've heard many people having issues with the VXL personally I have only had one problem on my rustler 4x4 which has it and it just need to be recalibrated.

That is why I keep a bag of assorted servo cables with different lengths around... things are "supposed" to fit but always need that little extra LOL

Absolutely love my hoss.... However I recently upgraded my servo It feels like my servo protector is crap and allows for crap steering on pavement almost non existing at times. Have you yourself any recommendations?

Just ordered my GF a Hoss in purple and was looking at the motor cooling upgrades just in case. I noticed the Hoss and my Maxx use the same motor?!?!?! I thought it was weird but I'm guessing you used the same heat sink and fan from the Maxx?

Yes its the same heat sink and fan from the maxx and thats why I also run this on 4s since the motor can handle 4s in the maxx. But only if you change the esc the vxl can only handle 3s

always wondering if other people have the same problems as me. Working on my Hoss and after half of work realising something is missing. New order for some damn parts. And after next couple of rides the same again... I am paying more money for shipment than for the parts. :)

I'm planning on doing the same esc swap on my hoss because the stock esc cuts off for some reason after running a fully charged battery it cuts off after running it for about 2 minutes.🤷‍♂️😂

Hey so I made a warranty claim on my arma outcast 6s and horizon hobby shipped me out a brand new 150 amp esc so instead of buying the hobbywing which I was fixing to do, I put in the 6s esc in the hoss on the stock motor and gearing and it rips I would like to try it on 6s but I have to be very careful and keep an eye on the temps. I just soldered some 4mm bullet connectors on the stock motor and it plugged straight into the esc and I also just changed the ic5 connector and put in an xt90 to a traxxas male deans connector and bypassed the smart telemetry grey wire and it works pretty good.

@@OverBudgetRC Ok. Yes me to but i had problems with 4S too. if i accelerate with 100% the ESC cut off and stopp working until i restart it. You don't have this problem.

@@Daytona89 no it works great are you using the same hobbywing max10 sct maybe there is an issue with it. I have same Esc and motor in my backslash on 4s with no issues either.

@@Daytona89 Is it when it got hot or all the time and there is a RTR version that's 120A sold usually on ebay it will say RTR and otherwise looks the same and that one is rated for 2-3S it says on the sticker if its RTR and it will say 2-3S or 2-4S on the non RTR version. And if its non RTR then its possible there is something wrong what is your punch level set at mine is on 4 maybe on 5 it would have this issue. But all my RCs are in storage till I move so I can't check it.

Great video bro. How its Hoss runs with HW Max10 SCT, with pinion gear 18, is it smooth or cogging ?

Thank you it runs great the only time you would notice any cogging is at low speeds or rock crawling. If you do rock crawling with it I would recommend a sensored set up. But for normal driving or bashing this is great.

@@MrMaximuskodrata I have used the budget quicrun ESCs on my teton it was the 16bl30 it works good. I do like the adjustability of the ezruns I haven't used that esc but its only a 3s esc the max 10sct is 4s. Which is what I run this on.

@@OverBudgetRC Oh allright, I just think about when we powered up too much (Such as with 4S), we must also upgrade the drive shaft, and so on and so on :-) . So I will try to stay the Hoss with 3S. I have also have a TRAXXAS MAXX, all still stock parts, and plan to change the ESC with HW Max8 (stock motor). My Rustler 4x4, just change the ESC with HW 10BL120 (3S), its awesome, more punch and power than VXL 3S. I have also Stampede, all already hop up, combos use the Hobbywing Max10 SCT, Motor 3660, 3200KV, pinion gear 15T, spuur gear stock 54T. its fast and punchy, but although using metal drive shaft, I have broken once. Conclusion : More power to the RC, then must upgrade all that related.

Yes it qould work with the ESC but I think thats too high kv for the Hoss it will over heat that motor. I don't think you can gear low enough to compensate. You also need to make adapters for the connections

Lol sorry I sold it I upgrade them when they are new so I can sell the parts I remove for more. Helps offset the cost of the upgrades.
