Maybe i missed it but the impulse line on the 170 is different. You need to pop out the brass plug on the new carb

Do they make one with a primer bulb? My only issue is priming after refueling.

I don’t think so but it would take a completely different carb setup

Is the vented diaphragm cover necessary? I did this upgrade on my saw with a ported muffler and advanced timing.

The vent diaphragm is probably not necessary at all, but the way the filter base is set up it will suck saw dust in that little area. I had to plug that hole off with something so I just use the vented cover.

I have a litter 180c this needs done to. That single jet carb is the worst thing Stihl ever did! 😆

Doug if they have Zama carbs try installing the "clear" pump diaphragm instead of the black rubber-like one.

I have 2 of them 170's from 2005 and 2006 and they both still run fine on the fixed settings. I'm gonna tune them up so I need the adjustable one now.

What carb did you use ? Im rebuilding one at the moment bearings failed so buying Chinese ebay motor and adjustable carb

I like the top cover vents on those. JUST MAKES SCENSE .!! I have 025 on the bench and it doesn’t have the summer shield I’ll tell you what that air chamber pressurized like something else. I honestly think it’s messing with these Chinese carbs.

Sometimes I’ve had good luck and sometimes I’ve had horrible luck with the Chinese carbs.

@@JKSawShop yea my buddy got this saw and someone replaced the carb already. So I have two sitting here. I am going to make a winter summer door for this and give it better breathing capability I think the positive pressure is hurting the saw .!!!

I was recently told you can use an ms250 carburetor on the 170s. Is that true?

I have not tried that yet, but I will look into that I do have a 180 sitting around and a couple of O25 carburetors.

@@JKSawShop did you have a chance to do that and how did you make out? I've got 6 MS170's with Zama (1 adjustment screw) sitting on the shelf that won't run off idle and I've heard the Walbro carb with 2 screws fix the problem. But are they worth doing?
