Bigfoot Dad obviously relates to life as a dad. Somehow when you have a child and a big yard, heavy duty, high quality lawn equipment becomes super cool. It's kinda like - child at 6 months, dad gains 15-30 pounds. By the time the kid is 2 and a half years old, trimmers, lawnmowers and all the goodies/attachments are now coveted. I gotta tell ya, BFD, I'm jealous of your mower and not brave or patient enough to fiddle with making the changes myself. I might have to get actual tractor tires for the rear though, for Oregon terrain. Good move on the tires and wheels. Nice work. I love my Cub Cadet XT1 42'. John who?

@@BigfootDadExploresMontana Heh, cool. My pleasure and thank you. Your work is inspiring to dads across the mainland! My wife: "Why do you need tractor tires already - it's brand new?" Me: "Well if it's wet it will make a huge difference, especially on the slope, it will take a better bite, give good traction. I could keep the turfsavers as spares, and..." Wife: "That's on the bottom of our list of needs right now." Me: "Ok, true, but someday they'll be nice to have. Still, we will need the following attachments..."

I wire cup brushed mine clean, scuffed the remaining good paint, blew the loose dust off with an air chuck. Wiped it all down with acetone and brushed on 3 coats of the EZ-Slide. I have a Craftsman T240 that has the exact deck setup. Just slapped the AG tires on the rear to get through some swampy spots in my 1-3/4 acre yard.

I scraped off all the grass this past Saturday from My 2020 Cub Cadet Enduro with Intellipower and power washed it. Later this afternoon (Monday) I am going to spray mine with two or three coats of "undercoating" I bought from Tractor Supply Co. It's for undercoating automobiles. It should hold up for years. I will check it in two months to see how it is doing. I had considered bed liner. Glad yours worked out as good as it did.

I have a 2005 Troy Bilt Pony. 42in is perfect for my property because it's just a single family home. The deck is starting to rust through and it is discharging all of the debris out of the top of the deck. The mower runs great but I know I'm going to be in the market for a new one after this season. I was at Home Depot yesterday picking up blades and I was literally looking at this exact Cub Cadet sitting next to the same size Troy Bilt Pony that I have right now. I like the hydrostatic drive. I like the taller profile and I love the seat. This is $400 more than the Troy-Bilt. I'm glad you made this video. It just made it easier to make my decision.

I bought this mower last year (2020) and planned on it serving me for several years. I was proud of my new mower! I changed the oil and filter at 4.8 hours and used it most of last summer. It sat in my carport during the winter. I changed the oil and filter again at 11.1 hours before using it this spring. I had been using it approximately 15 - 20 minutes when I heard a loud bang and it stopped immediately. I took it to an authorized service center and after contacting MTD (Cub Cadet Corporate) they will not cover the warranty and fix my almost brand new mower! I talked to corporate and asked them what I could have done to prevent this, and their answer was they wished they could tell me, but they are not going to fix my mower. I will never buy another Cub Cadet product, nor recommend to anyone I know! Through no fault of my own, this mower turned out to be highly defective, and Cub Cadet is being penny wise and dollar foolish!

I,m going to guess that without a fuel shut off valve, the fuel leaked into the oil when parked and thinned the oil and took out the bearings. I had similar deal with another mower after forgetting to shut off my manual fuel shut off valve

I was at the probable decision on CC XT1 42. But honestly, I have been walking my mower for 30 years, and the hills and dips make the decision difficult. Never had an automatic battery charger. Have an ancient old 1 amp trickle charger though I put on occasionally when I bring the battery indoors for winter storage. I thought of adding a brush guard, but then I wouldn't be able to get in as close as I like to in some areas, leaving more for the string trimmer to do so I opted against it. I did add LED lights instead of the old incandescent 1156's. Our land is fairly flat so atv tires are unnecessary. I did however pump slime into the old tires so I don't have to air them back up every week, lol. Adjusted the valve lash yesterday, .004 on the intake and .006 on the exhaust. Also added "poor man's power steering" by adding needle bearings to the front axle spindles. Will also add bearings to front axles and get rid of the old bushings to save on axle wear and let the wheels spin more freely. Also fixing to put in an inline fuel switch to make it easier to run the carb dry in the fall without having to empty the tank.

Just bought a Cub LT50, and was thinking of adding bearings to the axles. If you have an AGM battery you should make sure the battery charger is compatible.
@Rebel9668
@Rebel9668 4 ай бұрын
@@anthonybrincefield2812 The batteries I use are plain old-fashioned lead acid batteries. I've found that if I leave them in the mower over the winter it shortens their lifespan significantly as opposed to wintering them indoors in my utility room and occasionally topping them off with the trickle charger. My last battery lasted about 3 years keeping it outside in the mower. My current battery is the same brand, same cranking amps, etc. and so far it is now on its 5th year and cranks the engine over as well as when it was new. Now, of course I don't do that with my truck's battery, but it gets used at least once a week so it isn't sitting dormant in the cold for long periods of time. I did add the needle thrust bearings to the steering spindles and they work great. However, the bearings I tried to replace the bushings with, while they fit okay inside the wheel hubs, they would not fit on the axles at all, not even when trying to persuade them with a BFH, lol. So, for now at least I'll just keep greasing the old bushings.

I added a washout port to my mower the beginning of summer. You'd be amazed how well it works. My mower deck used to look like that when I would have to scrape off old grass a few times a during cutting season. I checked it this week before storing for winter and with regular use of the washout port after every cut there was hardly any grass stuck to the mower deck.

Gilitar - this is... tempting. And it's giving me an idea. 😂 As for the mud, I wish I could avoid that, but to be honest, it is so dusty that I actually wait for a light rainstorm before I mow sometimes. I do let it dry out for a bit, but right before it's completely done, I'm out there hitting it out as fast as possible.

I have a mower lift, it is a great time saver. I use my cordless impact to remove the blade nuts then put them back on with a torque wrench, its much safer with a impact removing the blades, you can put them back on with an impact but I don't recommend it as you may over-tighten and strip the threads by doing so. Yep mowing really wet grass causes all that buildup under the deck.

Thank you for the tips. My XT2 spends all summer towing a dethatcher and aerator as well as trailers and all winter pushing a snowblower. Liquidflating the rear tires added traction for towing and pushing. Your new blades are for mulching, you can tell by the inward twist of the teeth at the back of the blade. High lift blades will be twisted outward to increase the lift and discharge of material. After a couple of warranty issues with a new machine it has proven to be an excellent purchase.

Seems like Oregon company could make the balancing doo dad with a star pattern on top to accommodate their blade. I blow off the top of the deck with compressed air after mowing and would surely do it before major servicing. Instead of pulling it all off as you have I might jack the whole thing up and set 4 to 6 inch blocks under all the wheels and while lying on the ground work up from underneath. For purposes of demonstration you did it best by pulling the entire thing. I like the board wedge for holding the blade to get the fasteners off. Checking tightness of fasteners and blades clearance, while you're in there is a good thing. Thank you for reminding us to do that. I have walked around this yard and dug out cacti before mowing. Too bad nobody thought to tape over the grease fitting tips before powder coating. The rims look very good by the way. Press on grease zerks; what will they think of next ? :-( Does John Deere do screw in grease fittings ? How does JB Weld figure into a tinting scheme ? I would want my lights un tinted for best night time vision but to each their own. I like a backing music track that doesn't compete with the voice over, good work ! As if the west doesn't have enough wind blown dust. ;-p

Great video! Love the aggressive tire look. I've been using same set of Gator blades on my JD for nearly 20yrs are great! The only thing I would change are the front plastic bushings 11:45. You can upgrade from bushings to actual wheel bearings. If you noticed the bushings will wear the spindle over over time 12:11.

Hi, @stevelucas2117 - yes, I totally agree that I should have done this. This was a few years ago and I am recalling that there wasn't much information on how the bearings worked.
