Upholstery Insight: Sew Foam

I want to diamond tuck or tuft a 5lb plastic Home Depot bucket … to make an ottoman . with either diamond uoholdery nails or the the kind you thread. But I don’t know which kind of button would be best. The nail or the thread-able one. Do they Have any kind of a backing piece to secure an upholstery nail into a bucket so it won’t come out? Like they have backs to earrings? Can somebody help me? 😇
