I have chopped wood everyday, and yes, I have shaved wood to start a fire, I have fished or hunted and then butchered or cleaned and then cooked the food outside and sometimes inside just to have a meal. It was aalways the most wonderful meal. I have lived in and slept in a tent in both hot and cold and absolutely perfect times. But I have not done any of these things under such extreme conditions just to let myself know that I can survive....and you enjoy it. I think I would too. Congrats! You are both an inspiration and you give US a flashback to our past and old adventures. Thank you. Unfortunately, these golden days the Mrs and I feel like like we are camping out when the hotel room doesn't have a fridge and microwave. :) Continue to enjoy the experience and continue to share with us all. If you've done nothing else these past few weeks since we discovered your channel you have brought a smile and perhaps an occasional tear to our oldtimer faces.l Best always.

I've been subscribed for a few weeks. I had cold weather training in the Marine Corps many years ago (30 year Marine, retired) and you seriously UNDERSTAND how to survive and THRIVE in sub-zero conditions. Do you have military training? I spent 4 months in Antarctica at McMurdo Station but full time not out in the elements like yourself. Semper fi and keep these videos coming. It's always relaxing/satisfying to watch someone that knows what they're doing. Thanks.

Very nice video. Oh yes -40°C is already cold. I know this from Russia, where I was professionally years ago and built a plant as chief. Was had just before the Arctic Ocean few nights -55 ° C. Why do not you turn the furnace 180 °, then you would have more heating surface and would not lose 23 - 30% energy. Also around the stove, with aluminum foil cover the tent wall inside. Is reflective heat and helps you keep the tent warm. Greetings from Frankfurt and stay healthy, your food, already what good.

When I was a geologist in the 80s we used insulated tents and kerosene heaters. Still, it stayed below freezing at floor level at -49°C. We sent some line cutters to our property just south of Great Bear Lake in late February. The line cutters were up before light because there isn’t much daylight yet in February. They get up one morning, airtight stove roaring away and one guy said it was really cold last night. The other guy said “crappy tent is so thin you can see stars. “ Hand goes up. No tent. The tent was too close to the stove and burned away while they slept. No flames but just embers as the canvas smouldered away.

Here is something you might try, the next time you fix potatoes that way add a can of green bean to it. I also like a bit vinegar on top also. Let me know if you try it..

Bro I recognize those overalls they are issued to me right now. I was on frozen gunner 2018, 2019 and 2020. Man.... if they didn't think wood stoves would kill us all we would have suffered suffered way less. Sick video.

We've hit - 40 here a few times... Almost every year at least once a winter. Maybe - 40 with the wind chill anyways. I dunno... it's cold... But not snow pants, parka, balaclava and toque cold... Maybe its just me? My main winter get up is mitts, sweatpants, winter boots, a hoodie with a lumberjack jacket and a toque. As long as you keep moving you're fine.

I work in northern canada and i find a lot of people make mistakes on how they dress themselves. Not so much the clothes but they allow sweat to build up especially on the hands and feet. Its essential to be dry. New gloves are much warmer because people do not even realize the sweat from thier hands has acumulated into the gloves. In minus 40 the difference is extreamly apparent as the feet and hands act like radiators and in turn your heart pumps the cold blood from your hands and feet all through the body. Never let the limbs get cold. Do this by keeping paper towels in your palm in the glove. As it dampens replace it. For the feet the same but put paper towel under your feet in the boots and at minus 40 in the socks and between each toe. As these damp replace them. You will be doing this a few times a day on a 12 hour shift outside in mi us 40. When you go inside to a heated place imediately strip or when you return outside you'll freeze and won't last 15 minutes without warmups. If you do these things you can stay outside in those temperatures for a full day without needing to warm up. For gear at least 3 pairs of pants and 3 sweaters all progressivly bigger in size. Looser the better never light. Air is insulative and air needs to pass the skin arm pits and so on. Thats just for under your parka and overalls.

I've always read where you should leave your cabin or tent with dry kindling ready to light as soon as you return in case of frozen hands or fingers. Am I wrong?
