I absolutely love this recording of this dance! Whenever I want to teach it, I come back here and review it before I talk in front of people.

I've looked at quite a few videos of Upon a Summer's Day and this is my favourite, despite the dull room. Some others have fine (or at least interesting) costumes or lovely settings, but this one has both an excellent performance of the music and lively, flowing, accurate dancing. The tempo is very much to my liking. This makes me want to dance.

I am very pleased that you enjoyed our dance, despite the room. I wanted to know if you had also saw the other videos I putted in you tube and what do you think about them. If you want to dance, we are waiting for you. For this event we will look for a more elegant room.

@@aldoferrari4579 Jack's Health is also very good, but Upon a Summer's Day is my favourite. With such splendid people I would be prepared to dance outdoors when it's snowing, but if we could use one of your magnificent palazzi, that would be all the better.

The simplicity of the room and the dancer's clothing makes this dance easier to appreciate and learn from. There are very few distractions from the figures, the footwork, and the timing. Thank you!

From which country is this traditional dance?

English country dance originated in the British Isles; it is the repeated execution of a predefined sequence of figures, carefully designed to fit a fixed length of music, performed by a group of people, usually in couples, in one or more sets... Upon a summer's day, choreography published in the first Edition of English Dancing Master, 1651, John Playford

@@aldoferrari4579 Thanks Aldo...I photograph our group over the last 10 years. I am compiling a slide show to show our story in photos mainly of all the many, many times we have danced together....I appreciate the MOVEMENT too though as well as the fun, love and focus needed to dance well...Also to record the dancing clearly. I saw an iceskating event yesterday...truely mind-blowing...yet we often forget the photographer dont we as we watch something very very good...kzbin.info/www/bejne/p6KseWybr5yXb6M

I know this tune as "the Lark in the morning" "The lark in the morning, she rises from her nest She goes home in the evening with the dew all on her breast And like the jolly ploughboy she whistles and she sings She goes home in the evening with the dew all on her wings"

Make the arches taller! If you can't get under them, bend the knees rather than bow your head. It looks much better.
@aldoferrari4579

thanks for your advice but i think it's really embarrassing and not very elegante to bend knees while dancing.
@Euphoftoday
@Euphoftoday 4 жыл бұрын
If a tall person is going under an arch made by shorter people it looks and feels much better to bend your knees rather than duck your head. The timing needs to be precise: the leading couple have to be out of the way before the arches can move up or it can easily look a mess. Four beats for the ones to lead down and through the arches; four beats for the ones to cast to the bottom while the others do two chassés up. I might count it out as: “Lead and under and slide and slide”. I've been a dancer for 27 years.
