If we go back to 2013, I made a return visit to the regional town of Scone to catch the side loaders that were operating in Upper Hunter Shire Council. Some years ago I posted a video of the recycling truck which rolled through the area for some time, but in this video I’m finally sharing the garbage truck which had been servicing the region. Very different to the recycler, we have a Hino cab chassis mated with a Superior Pak Raptor side lift compactor, done up entirely in that earlier Cleanaway blue and featuring the original business logo, being a bit of an unusual combo choice from this company. I don’t think I was even aware Cleanaway had this country contract until I located their truck, I’m not sure how long they were providing the services for, but as far as I know it was only 705 here which got around to all the main towns and villages Monday to Friday. It appears this Hino was based locally in the Scone industrial area, and I guess it was supported by the Singleton operations an hour away if a spare vehicle or assistance was needed.
I’m not sure what the go was with the speed of the lifter functions, but it’s some pretty snail pace action, seems like you’d be out there forever picking up bins in urban locations! I thought I initially took more shots, but I guess at the time I thought these three clips showed enough, that morning I must have been unable to hang around in hope of spots with somewhat quicker bin lifts. This truck is long gone now and I do wonder if it was relieved of duty by another blue machine from elsewhere until the contract came to an end. JR Richards since won the joint tender for all kerbside collections in Muswellbrook and Upper Hunter, introducing I think six new 30m side loaders in late 2018 for the job, plus not long ago in July 2022 a third bin for organics was introduced to Upper Hunter residents. A couple years back one Wednesday I found myself in the town of Aberdeen to video a current side loader on garbage, but success was not on the cards... the truck disappeared quicker than it appeared and for the life of me I couldn’t track it down again!
