Thats what I've been telling people. I've never cared about his disparities like how they made a mockery of back then. And then he kept going and defied the odds up to 2009. His only problem was that people rather hear fake millionaire rappers who are always talking about killing, drugs, baby mamas, child support and bitch bitch bitch. And yes, even I once fell under the spell that causes the hood to self destruct. I'm 42 now and I remember when I was 28, I started to despise rappers that rapped under empires like Cash Money Ruthless, Bad Boyz and No Limit. There was some good out of them, but not enough. This is one of the reasons why Micheal Jordan was accused of hating rap music. Micheal Jackson is indeed the King of Music all together, but Hammer do deserve more. I occasionally revisit some of the old rap songs back then because they was a part of my past, but I refuse to glorify them.

Weekends in the late 80’s-90’s: FRIDAY: AFTERNOON: After school you either do your homework as soon as you get home from school (or straight up lie saying it’s done/you don’t have any). Go outside to ride bikes, go to the friend’s house with the pool, the trampoline, or bball court. Whatever you were doing, you just better be home by the time the street lights came on! EVENING:Take your bath/shower, Dad gets home from work, and Friday was pizza night. Then we’d gather in the living room together- parents and siblings- with the TGIF lineup kicking off on ABC from 8p-10p. Followed by the news which marked our bedtime. SATURDAY: MORNING: Up at the buttcrack of dawn with a bowl of cereal hoping you were the lucky sibling who found the toy in the box. You’re up so early that the only thing on tv was Home Shopping Network, random Infomercials, and Bob Villa doing home renovations. 😂 Then the cartoons come on starting at 8a. When the rest of my siblings got up, we’d all use our two hour video game limit to play Sonic on Sega Genesis together. Then Mom took us to the library where we’d each check out two books… One that our parents picked for us (that we’d have to read and do a book report for Mom and Pop to read) and the other book we could choose for ourselves. AFTERNOON: Get home from the library and scatter. From cleaning and other chores, hanging out with friends, going out together as a family, going to each other’s activities like sports, etc. Hit Blockbuster Video and pick a movie (if/when ALL 5 of us had our chores done AND had a good week in school… no detentions, schoolwork done, and nothing less than a B+ on quizzes and tests… which was added pressure in school because you didn’t wanna be the sibling who ruined it for everyone else). And one of my favorite Saturday afternoon memories: Watching Kung Fu Theater just my Dad and me- while my Mom and sisters would be watching Lifetime Movies. PREVENING (the period between afternoon and night from around 5p-8p): Pops would give me a haircut, Mom and sisters did each other’s hair, and we’d all have to pick out our clothes and iron them so they were ready for church. And Saturdays, we’d have homemade cheesesteaks or hoagies… each making them how we liked them. (Fridays and Saturdays were the only nights Mom didn’t cook big homemade meals). EVENING: Unlike the TGIF lineup that the whole family would watch together, Saturday nights were just us siblings tuning in to SNICK at 8pm. Rug rags, Doug, All That, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains it All, Keenan and Kel, etc. Just like TGIF, though, the lineup changed from time to time. My sisters watched until 10pm bedtime. Me? I was always a little punk, so Are You Afraid of the Dark wasn’t for me at the time.😂 SUNDAY: MORNING: Church, of course! Sunday School 10am-11am. And regular service from 11:30am-1pm. AFTERNOON: Get home from church, change clothes, then we’d get a head start on our library books (the reports being due Friday morning. Dad left for work at 4:30am everyday, so we’d have to leave the reports on the counter where he’d leave our lunch money before heading to school. He’d read them before going to work then leave them for Mom to grade). We’d be doing that until dinner was ready. Just like every other day, we ate dinner… TOGETHER… in the dining… at the dinner table. Then, you didn’t just eat, get up, and leave. When everyone finished eating, Pops would ask each of us about the week, good and bad. Then he’d ask about the upcoming week. I hated it at the time! All of our friends had tvs in the bed rooms and got to eat whenever and wherever they wanted to! They could watch tv and everything! But I realized as an adult that while I was wishing I was in their shoes, they were wishing to be in mine! They got all the toys, clothes, video games, everything! When I had to rush home with the streetlights coming on while they could stay out late and go do whatever they wanted to do, I resented having parents that forced us to eat together, wouldn’t allow us to go be at friends’ houses whose parent/ parents weren’t home leaving them/us unsupervised. In school, we ALWAYS had to sit in class on Monday hearing the stories about all the big fun we missed out on not being there! And as an 11+ year old kid, it SUPER sucks to be the only one on the outside of an inside joke! LoL! But, I digress. SUNDAY EVENING: After dinner, we’d get our school supplies packed and our clothes ready for school. Then it’s chill mode. By then, it’s 5:30p/6p. We’d play a board game or something together and/or gather around the tv to wind down. Pop in the movie we rented from Blockbuster (when movies were 75-90 minutes long) and end with shows like America’s Funniest Home Videos and other Sunday Night family stuff. We weren’t allowed to watch the Simpsons or In Libing Color because our parents didn’t play that stuff AT ALL! The moment profanity or sexual innuendo hit the screen, it’s game over for that show! LoL. To end the night , we knew it was bedtime when boring a$$ 20/20 came on. I know… I know. The length of this comment is absolutely outrageous to the social media generation. But hey, what’s to be expected from a guy whose parents made him read books and turn in book reports every week?! Oh, and… That wasn’t a rare, one time type of thing, either. Neither were we homeschooled! And I’m not sure what’s worse… Having to do that ON TOP OF our actual classwork during the school year… Or having to do it over spring break and summer vacation. What do you fine ladies and gentlemen think?

Hammer was legendary back then! The energy he put into his performances is unmatched in today's rap performances. Who today brings that much energy and joy to their performances? Everyone is so dark and vulgar. Different times back then and better too in many ways starting with MC Hammer!
@Joreel2 жыл бұрын
One of the best things about his shows was that he brought a great message that you didn't need to be vulgar in your lyrics to be huge back then. He kept it clean in his lyrics and his shows.

I prefer '80s rap over today's music. MC Hammer is still my favorite. I still remember watching the season finale of "Dancing With The Stars" and retired football player Emmet Smith and his partner, professional dancer Sheryl Burke were dressed like MC Hammer and danced to his rap "U Can't Touch This". At the end, they won. They did an amazing job.

We were towing a float around the field with our tow truck and my husband told him I was his biggest fan and he stopped what he was doing and came over and signed an autograph for me. He was such a nice and wonderful man. I felt like I was back in highschool and I met my idol. I saw him at an awards show with Sai doing can't touch this and Gangnam style. All I can say was that man hasn't lost a beat. He's still got it. That was a great day for me 🫶 May God always bless you!

We are at the point of no return. At one time, I laid these debts on NWA and all other rappers that tore down the barriers in the industry. Over time, I realized that they actually innovated the industry...Re-invented it. After that, rap was one thing, but R and B became the main attraction up until 1999 when No Limit and Cash Money became the main event gibing Bad Boys and Ruthless some major competition. After the year 2000, the industry flourished, but at the same time, lyrics began to be a bit too real and not to mention, misleading. The one thing I didn't appreciate was the fact that we began to glorify the image of African Americans going to jail and dying in the streets from beef and petite disagreement to the point where we truly believe that this is the way it is supposed to be. The music is entertaining, but I'm here to remind us that life isn't all about drugs, pussy and alcohol. And if you are in your 40s and 50s like me and still acting like you are 10-25 years old, you need to grow the fuck up and get a grip of your communities before they are completely obliterated at our own hands.
