As a part-time supervisor to package handlers at UPS, it is very important to me to get to know my loaders. What do they do on their spare time, where do they see themselves in 1-5 years, what are their goals in the future. When you get to know your employees, not only can you see how well they work, but you can create relationships with them that can ultimately better your life as well as theirs, and then they will want to work for you and do better for UPS. A supervisor can make or break an employee, defining the morale and expectations of their employees while executing the goals and aspirations of the company.

He expects us to deliver everyday since we’ve got there. They even told us whenever they hire new people we come out of the trailers but they’ve hired 3 more people since and we’re still in the same spot and they’re preloading. I've been working for UPS for a couple of weeks now and I've noticed that most people that are busting their asses is because they deinitely suffer from anxiety. I have not had a single supervisor tell me that I'm too slow. I take my time to see the label and put it in the right belt (Sorting), if I'm unloading a truck I make sure I set the package so the laser can scan it and the sorters can see the label before the box gets to them to make their job easier. Meanwhile, there are other workers that are throwing packages as if they're running a sprint. Unnecesary burning of energy and ledas to mistakes and broken packages while there's no one rushing to be quick. Sometimes they pull packages from the middle to have all packages on top fall, I just stay back knowing some of those packages can crack your head or break your neck. I take my time and unload from the top and continue down to the middle and them move to the other side and unload completely like the instructions on the video say. NO ONE IS RUSHING YOU, STOP BURNING UNNECESSARY ENERGY, RUSHING LEADS TO INURIES AND MISTAKES, TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO A GOOD JOB SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO THE SAME JOB TWICE.

I learned how the company operated like the roles of supervisors, seniority, pay after a couple of months there. It was supposed to be one year to put on my resume but then I kept going. I was going to school at the time and said I’ll wait before driving, was offered PVD work during pandemic then an opportunity to go driving came so I studied, went to class and here I am still working at Ups as a driver almost at 5 years with the company. I went to my orientation this morning and was hired as a preloader. Everyone seemed like really cool people and they seemed to really care about the employees. I have a really good friend that gave me the heads up that they were looking for people and he put in a good word for me as well. He’s been there for several years and has become a driver now. Starting out they hired me at $22 an hour. I love the hours because regardless of how early I have to wake up, I know I’m going to get overtime hours per day and anything over 5 hours a day is overtime which is roughly $30 an hour. I’ve been a contractor, a mover, and have done concrete work for most of my adult life. The start out pay is better than any place I have ever applied to and the benefits and union opportunities are astrological.

Hello! Great video! So, I have an interview next week. I was wondering if you’re allowed to listen to music during work? Can you bring your phone in the warehouse? Last of all, What do People wear? I worked at Amazon before and it was a very tiring job so I never wore Jeans. It was always baggy clothes like a sweater with boy shorts. So is that allowed? Thank You!!!!
@MicahSimpson4 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah the interview and training are the only times you’ll need to dress nice, after that, everyone wears shorts, sweats, sweaters, beanies etc, basically comfortable clothes. Your phone will get an employee’s sticker so they know it’s yours, and yeah, you can wear headphones, but only one ear in so you can still hear. Good luck for the interview!! What city are you working in?

I’m not sure if all Hubs are same, but at mine we had an option to work Monday’s, especially during peak season. (Reg sched tues - sat) which was good for more hours. But basically it’s a part time job, and it won’t really increase. Another option is to stay for the day shift and be a driver helper. So there’s ways to make more money, I would just ask your sup.

Also the hours I see on the application it’s from 11pm to 3am are those realistic hours? Because I see comments saying they have like 4:30 - 9:00 etc and once I’m done applying how long does it take for them to let you know something? And do I need a college degree or high school diploma to get the job as a package handler? And last question how much do they make an hour I also heard they get paid weekly is that true?

Hey buddy, yeah being skinny ain’t an issue, you’ll be able to do the job, there’s someone always nearby if you need help. I currently work for UPS. Somedays, I can barely walk to my car, because my legs and back are so sore. A lot of people are not really that friendly. They act like robotic drones waiting for their slave sentence to (shift) end. A few are very friendly. The HUB reminds me of the scenery, and mentality from the new Mad Max movie. Mindless, repetitious scanning, and packaging. Your life becomes, an endless progression of beeps, loud voices, and rollers guiding boxes to the back of a giant dark(pit)trailer. A world of stained metallic metal, conveyor belts, and guttural dialog. As long as you have a clean background and pulse...your welcomed to be a package handler. The marketed world of UPS would have you think everything is crimson & clover, until you enter the hub. Yeah, I felt like quitting a few times too. If it’s anything like FedEx they will tell you anything to keep you..I Quit FedEx because manager wouldn’t let me speak to HR. I heard that UPS doesn’t have a fix time they will call you when you are needed.

With UPS it all depended on the season, but yeah we would pretty much have to go in as early as they needed. Which honestly I didn’t mind, I mean it gave me more hours. Some days during peak season we’d do 12am - 10am, good times.

Hey man do you think they will hire a minor (17) as a picker or whatever? I am osha certified and have good character. I just need money but hate customers. This is for part time of couse

Go apply! I thought it was 18 but I heard they've been hiring younger, go try and then let me know!

One thing you forgot to mention was most these UPS locations aren't worth the distance you drive to only work 3 possibly 4 hours a night
@MicahSimpson2 жыл бұрын
Such a good point! Especially now with gas prices so high. Long drives would not be ideal.

Getting into package handler question when they put you as a loader and unloader is it loading up the regular trucks on for them delivering or is it attract the trailer truck loader and unloader for that position I got about 5 days before I go in for my orientation
@MicahSimpson2 жыл бұрын
nice! excited for you bro! yeah so basically they will assign you to your position, either moving boxes from the big trucks, or by loading the daily drivers. there are a bunch of different loading and sorting jobs, they'll place you where they need you.

Do you think package handler is for people who are loner that prefer to work alone?
@MicahSimpson2 жыл бұрын
there are aspects of the job where you work alone to complete the work, but there are also moments of communication and teamwork, so you'll experience both!

@@MicahSimpson i dont mind small communication and teamwork. But if most of the time the work is done alone I’ll apply.

I just got promoted to supervisor on the start of my 3rd week. I was pulled on the first day of orientation and was told that I could be a supervisor candidate if I wanted. I took the offer, was told to remember work load methods and 2 weeks later, when I was about to sign in, my supervisor told me not to sign in. Ofc I was confused, but then he told me it’s because I made part time supervisor 😂. So yes, great camaraderie and it is literally that easy to move up in the company and start making full time job money from this part time “side hustle” everyone keeps talking about.

Wow that's actually so amazing. I'm turning 18 soon but preparing to go to college next year. Right now Im working two full time jobs. I can't wait till I get my permit on my birthday and when I turn 21 I plan on working at ups part time if not then truck driving. But ups is definitely the goal

Yes sir! You can listen but only in one ear... cause even when by yourself, someone will shout something you need to hear...

WHAT IS THE BEST POSITION TO WORK AT FOR UPS!!

I really enjoyed being a driver helper, but if your in the warehouse, you'll be loading or unloading to start, and I think working your way up to a driver would be the way to go!

@@WaqasKhan-hx4hw it will be tough on your joints/back for sure, but if you don't mind physical labor and being sore, then nope, its never too late to start.
