I too feel that statement 1 in coriolis force question in wrong.In ncert it's clearly given that 'coriolis force is directly proportional to the angle of latitude' which means that angle of latitude is the determining factor. However upsc's statement says that 'it increases with increase in wind velocity's.This will be wrong because for example at equator even if wind velocity increases, coriolis force will be zero as it depends on angle of latitude and not wind velocity.

Upanishad question is also wrong. Multiple Upanishads mention the Puranas. ANy one who has read them will know that the original composition of Puranas was before the upanishads. Eg: From Brihadaranyaka: "As from a fire kindled with wet fuel various kinds of smoke issue forth, even so, my dear, the Rig-Veda, the Yajur-Veda, the Sama-Veda, the Atharvangirasa, history (itihasa), mythology (purana), the arts (vidya),........" Those who actually READ upanisads would have got this question wrong(if UPSC is going to give a gravely wrong key)

@@ankurblue3877 i respect your observation may be it can go anyway. I am also an aspirant like you. 3 factors which lead me think that this is correct were: 1. Widespread doesnt mean everywhere. It just means its spread is big. Also UPSC used a standard language...when upsc uses standard language ( here it used ," found to be " ) whenever upsc ornaments the word before the keyword they are generally correct. Similar you can observe in niger seeds ques in 2023. Upsc generally incorrect those statements where keyterm is either at start or at end like omnivorous ques Squirrels 2. They are called forever' chemicals also there are news articles of its widespread in US. Since Upsc also framed one question on US debt default may be they found the similar news in that newspaper related to us 3. And if you are saying its not widespread, then can we say its not widespread.? No we cant say its not widespread. If term used would have been pfas are everywhere in water or in every water body then it would have been surely wrong But widespread generally i feel this time upsc will correct this also keeping in mind that this time upsc deliberately made all statements correct in many quess like part wala , also money bill wala article 100% central funded

Pfas is widespread in drinking water just google pfas + widespread also coriolis force increase in magnitude with wind velocity. Imagine rotating in a circular rotator the more the velocity the more the deflection and more coriolis force. Although wind velocity is not impacted but the amount of deflection is increased which is coriolis force.

@@UpscMainstream but sir deflection is directly related to coriolis force na. The more the coriolis force the more is deflection. Also where rotation is prominent like at poles coriolis force is maximum and where there's flat surface its zero at equator. It reveals that deflection of wind is the magnitude of coriolis force being exerted . Thats why wind deflect in both hemispheres as per coriolis force. You are correct when u say that in ncert its written that wind velocity affects deflection. I push this further that what you are saying deflection is nothing but coriolis force. Becoz deflection is perpendicular to the pressure gradient and Coriolis force is also perpendicular. Also at equator deflection is zero so coriolis force is zero. So deflection and Coriolis force are the 2 names of the same concept

Coriolis force is a pseudo force. Similar to the centrifugal force . It depends on the amount of velocity in a circular motion. You can crosscheck sir. All the best for future endeavours
