Civil services is not about studying everything under the sun and reproducing it in the exam but being a good and honest person that shubham kumar is..He js not just the topper but a good and truthful person at heart ..Respect for such toppers increases manifold

Very nice initiative ... I think almost 99% get in trap.. My personal experience - I joined very famous sociology coaching costing around 45 k ..he tried to complete syllabus in 3-4 months but he overloaded my brain with too many books reference and news paper ..most imp point was tht I was new to sociology and the topics by coaching institute was scattered ..was unable to comprehend in right direction.. So pls new aspirants be very careful.. All the best .

Yes..sir you right i did my coaching from chanakya institute in 2017 nd the fees was 1.64lakhs(including optional). First 4 months they taught us general science, csat,and ethics nd optional also was running parallelly. Then they start rest of the subjects nd finished them in jst less than 3 months. Many topics nd syllabus was remained untouched. Optional teacher also left coaching in mid way nd the next teacher was so bad in teaching nd was not punctual. We staged protest many times in institute before adminstration but no action.After eight months of coaching i was feeling like ki kuch aata ee ni he...then i took break nd start preparing on my own. That 1.64 lakh was waste totally. I can't say about others institutes but mine was pathetic.

UPSC is doing a great job in shocking aspirants. They are making level playing field for everyone not like those who afforded expensive coaching could only clear Dedication and hard work will only clear exams. Not fees. This is the real meaning of equality. Gone are those days when ORN was only place for UPSC Now anyone can and specially with mentors like Harshit Dwivedi,Amit Sengupta, Bookstawa and tonnes other ( yes no paid promotion, and sorry if I forgot anyone, there are many fantastic teachers on KZbin, it will be night if I list everyone down) Anyone with clear concepts will clear. And coaching business will also be confused in 7-8 answers Kudos to UPSC. Wish every exam conducting organisation becomes like this.

I tried to do self-study for one month but simply couldn't get into it. I was also becoming very indecisive with my optional so after much thought, I took up the Unacademy Plus subscription (I live in a place where there are no popular coaching institutes branches; Also, they cost, as Sir said, more than 1.5L; I'm in the 2nd year of my college so I couldn't go to Delhi). I'm not endorsing Unacademy or saying that one cannot do well in civil services without coaching but after two months, it has certainly made me confident. Another thing I want to add is that - don't take any topper's words religiously. Very few toppers actually say that they received help from coaching which instills another big misunderstanding into aspirants' minds that - 'coachings couldn't help'. Maybe they felt that their preparation after coaching was much more 'productive/useful' but for the most part, it's only because they got their basics strong.

I myself enrolled for foundation course but after joining coaching,,i just felt that self study is best,,,,many playlists r available on youtube ,,Harshit sir has covered syllabus holistically,,,,institutes provide a direction and make u disciplined,otherwise badic concepts are same,,even one can understand the concept well with self study rather joining coaching,,only test series is mandatory for answerwriting

I am defence aspirant but i study all the UPSC material provided you on youtube. One problem that i faced is, while self preparing i took too much of time in one GS paper, which eventually lead to incompletion of the syllabus before exam. I have learned from my mistakes that just studying isn’t enough, completing the syllabus is the main goal.

So true sir so true because Kanishk kattaria AIR 1 after clearing UPSC he said he didn't join any coaching only he gave a some interview no GS coaching no optional. Just interview so he himself said in media "I didn't join any coaching centre, but yes I took some interview, not for basic coaching. In order to make trp and popularity to coaching centre they impose posters and claim the topper had been studied from here which is false and hoax and bogus. "

Thanks Brother for being so honest. I was in coaching , after one month i sued them because they refused to refund , i simply wanted my money because things were not as they claimed. I learnt that never ever join Coaching without trial, and if you are, first talk to the students studying there, its very important that you do.

@@Ananya-dr5mh Look if you really wanna get your money, you have go gun blazing, don't expect that this would end uo without any drama i afraid, but lemme tell you something, these coaching folks, you have to hit where it hurts them, their reputation, once you do that they are fragile, and remember high courts have favored students and said "A single notice/note that fee is non refundable is not enough to restrain student from getting back their money"

@@Ananya-dr5mh I tell you what, go talk to them calmly first, say - "Sir i no longer want to study in this coaching, i would like you to deduct some money and return the rest " Coaching : Why! Now make sure you write all the points in a paper and go through with it one after another. Make sure to not bend on any point, record that stuff as voice recording. All you have to do is not agree with what they are saying , not for a sec and defend your points. After that they will end up saying "we will work on it" You say: i don't wanna continue, plz return amount Give them a letter to make this look official and serious, leave for now, give them time to think and talk to their staff, check for their response before being aggressive

Sir just abhi 15 min phle muze byjus ka call aya tha ,,o bol rahe the ki aapka hmari scholarship ki list nam aa chuka he ,, aur apko jb time milega tb apko ek senior experience holder teacher allott kiya jayega aapki har Q ke liye ,wo apko guide karege ,,,,,,,, to jb unka call ata to muze laga tha ki ye apni coaching ki couselling krne ki liye aise bribary statment kr skte h , tb mene unse pucha ki apka koi free coaching nai h kya? To wo bole ki apki jo nxt session me apke sare douts clear ho jayenge 😂?
