When renting in the Philippines. I would follow the 3 times rent rule, if this rental is $900, make sure you make AT LEAST $2700 income monthly. It would get you out of trouble!

Let me add that for those who are on a fixed retirement income, your retirement is going to go ‘proof it's gone’ this decade, so you should be first focused on building your investments instead of upscale renting. Americans can find a place in Mexico for a third of this price while they build their net worth. Also $500 apartments can still be found in rural Texas for example. Note stock market and Bitcoin one more leg up then probably a severe crash before the Fed will open the money printing spigot again. I'm buying today the markets.

OMG, I didn’t realise that there are so many sick people on the internet. I watched some of the comments people were putting up absolutely disgusting! On a more positive note, thank you to, Paul and Baby Mae for showing us this beautiful home. I would most definitely want this but I’m not coming until the fall. If by some strange reason it’s still there I’ll invite you both round for a coffee.

I had a window shaker in my bedroom in the early 80s, but haven't seen one since. Even in the last 17 years in Southeast Asia all the A/C are split units. Price isn't too bad, you pay a lot for western amenities here. I have a generator too and it's a really nice thing to have. it's a must have on anywhere I'm staying for more than a few days. God bless everyone, stay happy and stay safe.

Great video. More of these please. Anybody who thinks this is overpriced has got to be certifiably crazy. If that was true, someone would post a video of this quality with a “fair” price. My bet is that there are literally no options for a place this nice for even a peso less than $900.

Especially at the higher elevation it will cool off enough at night to make that enjoyable. I had a bathtub with hot water at a place I rented at 1000m elevation with a clear view of Mt. Apo. Search for Camp Sabros which was near the house I rented. That elevation is too extreme and can be very dreary as you will see in photos if you search.

The idea of the compound is comforting to me. Especially when it is outside (but not too far outside) a city that I can get most everything I may need. I also love the fitness center as I am pretty active (even at my old age lol). Although I could easily afford $900/mo, I would like something more in the $600-700 range. But even not being there (nor having never visited which I hope to change) I feel that something like that can be had. Paul, am I correct on that?

Great place and a great deal, Paul. This is why I can never remove the Philippines from my list. I really don't need that much space, rooms or amenities though. Another thing is I'd be weary of driving around in the Philippines because anything that happens would be my fault.
@SMoore-vj7bt
@SMoore-vj7bt 2 жыл бұрын
I lived in the Philippines from age 26 in 1990 to 2020, other than a few of those intervening years in the USA. You get used to the driving, but it is nerve wracking initially. As for accidents you just need to pay off other party, and yes all accidents will be your fault so do not bother waiting for the police. Just make arrangements. But on the flip side the mandatory insurance is a negligible costs so you can set aside the money you would have been spending in the USA on insurance. The most important suggestion I can give you is choose higher elevation (but not too high as becomes too dreary above ~500m) so you don't need to spend you life in airconditioning. Also choose a decongested living space with neighbors who don't have incessantly yapping dogs, chickens and karaoke. Also scope out your Internet access speed and reliability which is often lacking in most locations. Is Elon Musk's Starlink available yet in the Philippines? As for myself, I am finished with the Philippines because the inconveniences, congestion and climate wore me out. But to each his/her own.

@@SMoore-vj7bt In 398 days I'll be looking for someplace to retire. Right now I'm in Panamá on vacation. It checks off more boxes for me than most places I'm considering. I've never been to the Philippines, but hear it's call constantly. I like the people who I see there (on KZbin) expats and Filipinos alike. I've heard all the ups, downs and sideways from everybody. It seems that many people get tired of the crap, eventually.

@@terryashley4674 Filipinos are lovely people in their natural environment (always smiling, joking, friendly), but they can be a pita in congested settings such as skipping ahead in queues (and lots of queues in the Philippines). And they seem to be immune to noise pollution thus they think nothing of inundating their neighbors with it. I'm still traumatized from the incessant noise, so much so I start to wince if I am exposed to any even in the USA. Latin America has much more crime, home break-ins, car jackings and muggings than the Philippines. The most danger in the Philippines comes from all the coughing people (they will turn and cough in your face and think nothing of it) and the crazy drivers especially on the highways. You may want to listen to Richard Heart's (the HEX scam creator) relate his harrowing experiences in Panama. He claims connected attorney and politicians stole his businesses, house, vehicles, and bank account. I find ex-urban, rural provincial life in the Philippines very charming.

@@SMoore-vj7bt SHELBY MOORE! Blast from the past. I recall you from many years ago... goldwetrust, etc. You had interesting ideas about PMs, silver, etc. And later about bitcoin. You still think BTC is the way to go? Thanks for your insights about Philippines. Yeah, the climate! I decided that if I move (or go for 1-2 year trial move) it will be only to Bagiou City, the coolest place. I hate humid heat, and anywhere else would be intolerable. Oh yes, noise. That might make it impossible, IDK. One question: you wrote about higher elevation that "it becomes too dreary above ~500m". What do you mean by that? "Dreary"? Why? Ok, you've sold me on the property! Can they hold it until I retire?? :) Just joking, but I love the concept of 6 month occupancy. Hell, 6 months of rent there is about 1 house payment here in the US. Paul... i'm totally gobsmacked by this one. Please don't hesitate to present such properties in the future!

Nice community, thanks for the tour. My concerns are noise and temperature. I didn't hear any roosters or dogs and that is rare when watching property for rent. I know that the higher elevations in Valencia are cooler. Where is this compound located?

You'd need a few hectares to be sure of that because a new neighbor can move in anytime. But on the farm, then you will inundated with smoke from activities on the farms around you. Noise and congestion were why I abandoned the Philippines after living there from age 26 to 55. It wore me out as I got older.

I plan to live more like the Old Dog . 900 is more than i want to pay . I have a friend that lives in Valencia . I hope to get some land and build my own . I have worked as a carpenter for many years . If I do go to Valencia maybe I can meet the Old Dog for lunch sometime . Some of my friends still call me by my nickname Hound Dog ha ha . I thought I was watching Barkers beauties when I saw Baby Mae in the showcase .

Thanks for the information. I was wondering if there were gated communities or neighborhoods where one could live in nice, clean, safe, and quiet surroundings.
@SMoore-vj7bt
@SMoore-vj7bt 2 жыл бұрын
There are but most of them are not a huge shared lot like that. In most subdivisions (even gated) will be inundated by noise from your neighbors. This situation is quite unique.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to have to do quite a bit of searching to find just the right city and the right neighborhood.

@@gary4451 I was there from 1990 to 2020. I have visited many places in the Philippines and lived in numerous of them. Personally I am finished with the Philippines because of the noise, unreliable Internet and congestion. And especially not until they rescind the morbidity jabs requirement. Yet my exhaustion with it may not apply to everyone. I will answer any questions if you have any for me.

It would be nice if the house has Solar power to prevent paying electricity which is extremely expensive and they overcharge you compared to utilities in North America which are less expensive or much cheaper as well as gas for cooking and heating water. For $900 but for $1000 us dollars with solar power, a water cistern system to use to wash the car, wash the dogs, flush the toilet and cleaning windows and floors. Saves a lot of money. All you need are food supplies, and going out to shop or eat plus your gas for the car and maintenance for it.

You will use much less airconditioning at that higher elevation.

Thanks mate. This or bigger is what I'm looking for in April/May. Need space for office and studio plus 3 bedrooms, big garden, pool, verandah for jym, lock up garage for two cars plus bike. Probably impossible to find.

@@SMoore-vj7bt I'm not worried about price. Blessed to have ample budget as I still trade on AU so have income off platforms I put money into . all searches I've done are in hot areas which are ok for when I tour but prefer to live in cooler places like this

@@petermathewvanaardt74 then you should be able to find. Valencia is cooler has numerous upscale homes. My advice is do not go above ~500m elevation in the Philippines unless you like rain blowing sideways through every pinhole crevice and often dreary weather. I lived at 1000m near Mt. Apo. Was nice for hot tub baths though.
