The Enthusiastic Gardener

Күн бұрын

This garden nightmare video comes with much sadness as it contains some very upsetting garden news. If you, like me, have spent hours digging and toiling and caring for your prized plants, then you will feel my pain. Just five days ago I had such high hopes when I planted my new Lobelia ‘Queen Victoria’ and yet in a few short days I have had to face this massacre and devastation. I tried everything I could to stop this from happening and yet all my efforts have been in vain. I cannot even bring myself to write any more in this description. You will have to watch this video to find out the whole story. I am far too upset, but I know that you, as fellow gardeners, will understand. Thank you for your continued support.

I normally lay around carrots(bought from shop, 30p a bag) for plants that I want protected! I’d rather they eat the carrot than my plant! I then collect them slugs in the morning and “bin” them! So far so good! 👍🏻 I try to garden organically.. even my delphiniums were saved 💪🏻

Sabotage 🐌🐌🐌🐌😬 They are pesky Janette I have a right carry on every year with them dragging there caravans around my paradise garden, once word gets round. So upset last year I invested in nematodes as heard good results. I think it helped....but last year was so hot and dry I don't know if that hampered the advances. Thanks for sharing bfn,🐞🌻🌱

They are such a nuisance but I am learning what plants they like and I don’t plant any of those any more, but my favourites are hostas and I might give the ones with the real truck rubbery leaves another try. And also I didn’t notice so many last year I think because it was so hot 🥵 have a happy Friday my friend 🥰

I'm so glad you can take it with humour. It really can be devastating. But don't give up. Don't resign yourself to a garden without hostas. Keep experimenting. I use copper rings and they work a treat BUT they must be at least 5cm wide, copper tubing is too narrow. Getting birds and wildlife into your garden is one of the best methods. So the war begins.... good luck!

I'm sorry I know its disappointing. What if you put the plant in a pot maybe away from any soil area. Maybe the snails wont find it. The squirrels dig up my bulbs and dig in my pots. Never had rabbits until recently and they mowed down many new plantings so I have to plant what they dont like and now cats are killing my catmint even though they say cats dont care for it. I love catmint so I put them in hanging baskets now. Life in the garden there are always surprises some sad and some happy.

Oh Adra, despite my efforts, two weeks later and it was just bare stalks 🤣 sorry to hear of all your disasters too! We just can’t fight Mother Nature I guess, and not would we want to. So annoying about your bulbs etc though. Sometimes gardening is disheartening, but only for a moment and then we get all enthusiastic again. We learn what we can and cannot have in our spaces don’t we? You just have to laugh about it all. Thanks so much for watching and all your lovely comments 😍

What do you feed your fur baby now that she has few teeth. My 14 year old mini poodle had most of his pulled and is being very fussy.
@TheEnthusiasticGardener
@TheEnthusiasticGardener 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sue, ah you have a fur baby too 😍 well she just has her normal food still. They eat raw so it’s very soft anyway, but she would never eat anything crunchy, even if it was the most delicious thing ever, obviously because her mouth hurt. She had 29 (yes 29! I did not type that wrong) teeth removed, so she only has 6 left now but she has her 4 fangs top and bottom and 2 doubles at the back. She is like a new dog, all bouncy and happy and now takes crunchy treats again. She must have been in pain for a while bless her. Richard was in pain when we got the vet bill 🤣🤣 thanks for watching xx

My heart breaks for you. I know this feeling all too well 💔I've lost my fair share of plants to the little rabbits we have in my yard. But never do we deal with snails! I believe you briefly mentioned it, but what is the typical snail-repellent technique you employ to keep them away? Snails are a whole new world for me and I'm curious what best works for you under normal circumstances.
@TheEnthusiasticGardener
@TheEnthusiasticGardener 4 жыл бұрын
Hi there, well you can use slug pellets but I don’t like to kill the snails plus my dog eats the pellets, or garlic wash (boiled garlic and you spray the cooled liquid on the plant every day which they’re supposed to hate) so I usually just pull them off 🥴 and throw them over the fence (not into someone else’s garden honest). Copper ring is supposed to work but I’ve been told mine wasn’t thick enough. At least I don’t have to deal with rabbits or deer I guess. Thanks for watching 😁

Hello So sorry. There seems to be no stopping those slugs and snails. I notice your fatsia is quite close to the lobelia. Did you know that they climb neighborouring plants like the fatsia and use it as a springboard to get to the plants they desire! They say a hedgehog is great for devouring them too. And you can't drown slugs/snails because they can swim! Keep that lovely sense of humour you have.
