@@Nico_GER7 I tell you why I think it's so good: 1) It's hard to strike the balance between content value and entertainment and manage to find a sweet spot - it's just the right length and has some very good creative elements. The tongue and cheek approach is great 2) Tone - getting the deep, male narrator voice was a genius touch. I suspect you got him from fiverr? Point being, keep going with this. It will set you apart from the other instructional videos! I launched a podcast recently and getting the intro right is one of the most difficult parts. Anyways, good wind forecast in San Francisco today. Will get my 5.0 out and sail under the Golden Gate bridge. Will test your upwind approach based on the tides today.

I have always found that pinching the board with my rear foot so as to rail the board also works...Combined with the slight lift to the board I give through my forward foot, I find that friction is reduced - since only the leeward rail and fin drive the board upwind. This is a skill that I learnt on formula boards and later on worked on to slalom sticks.

yes that's very true, however, it's a too advanced technique for most viewers, I believe

I find the best way to go up wind is to get in the car. Seriously, though, I began windsurfing in 1978! My first board was a Sailboard which most of you have never heard of. It was about 10ft. long and weighed more than my car. After a while i learned to sail it really fast upwind. Listening to Nico's comments makes me realise that modern boards are no different in behaviour, only in construction and shaping. I used to, when going upwind, narrow my stance, lean my upper body forward, position my weight (feet) more to leeward, actually dipping the leeward rail, inducing the board to head up, but then sheeting in hard with the back hand. What that does is to squeeze power into the board. The tilting of the leeward rail sends you upwind, but the sheeting in sends you down. Result = faster upwind speed. If you end up just going in a straight line, just ease the rig back a little so the balance shifts slightly in favour of upwind progress. Unless you're in super high wind, get out of the straps. You don't need them for this.

I RESPECTFULLY DISAGREE, but I bet I am in a minority! I love going up! the feeling of being locked in and straining for every bit of gain and the fine line between too high and loss of speed and falling of a plane or too low and tons of speed but less vmg...well love it. It's harder in my opinion , anyone can blast on a broad reach, ( well, let's be honest most aren't at a real speed on a broad reach , and it scares me! Lol) Plus ...well the truth is unless your in the Columbia River Gorge, you gotta go upwind like crazy for those fun downwind runs! Great video !
@danaelcarbonneau28434 жыл бұрын
If you love going upwind, have you ever considered trying Raceboards or Bic293 ? That's honestly a great way to enjoy going upwind (I'm both a Raceboarder and a funboarder and I sincerely prefer my mistral equipe to the rrd..), That's also where you can include a lot of strategy and thoughts, since the max angle lessens with the speed (your speed wind increasing changes the direction of the wind you sail with)
@westwindsailer4 жыл бұрын
@@danaelcarbonneau2843bic 293 would be nice to try, but where I live in Canada , we we have about 8 windsurfers...maybe 10 kiters, no shops that sell gear within 1500 kms!!. Most people do not do watersports Between myself and a friend we have lots of equipment a few Equiped, F2 races, both early and later full volume versions. A formula board and a many many old sinkers.
