CCCP propaganda film from 1972.

:) Sikäli, kyllä nuo tänäkin päivänä on parhaita autoja noihin olosuhteisiin.

The only Western trucks that were equally capable were aircooled Magirus-Deutz trucks! Almost 10 000 were sold to the Soviet Union for the construction of the Baikal Amur Mainline. They were so impressed by them that even nowadays they remember their "Magirusov" and UralAZ (the ones shown here) entered a longtime business relationship with Magirus Deutz and later IVECO!

it seems to me this marketing movie was produced for the Fins in 1972 (if the narrator is not added now). Well... they certainly convinced me that this machine will conquer any road! looove the stove in the cabin, so useful in the forrests.

Both Ural and Tatra are both excellent trucks, Urals are simpler though and slightly more reliable because it is built for rough terrain from the ground up. Tatras are built for more European type settings.

Yes ... years ago when the US captureda Russian jet, as they started looking at the inside, they laughed because the electronics had tubes instead of capacitors. Then they realized .... they would survive a nuclear blast, and the US jets would not (without heavy shielding) Simpler = better in my opinion :)

Whoever wrote the title "extremely silly propaganda" has clearly zero experience about offroad driving. Of course this is an advertisement, but unlike most products in most ads, Ural actually delivers. It is still the best offroad truck ever made. If only it didn't consume so much gas, it would still be a hit. Back in 1970s, the gas prices were not an issue in CCCP govt vehicles. Vakavissaan kannattaisi muuttaa otsikkoa. "Äärettömän typerältä" näyttää nyt otsikon laittaja.

The mere size of the wheels tells me that they know a thing or two about off road transport. Finesse? Nah. Function? Most definitely! Simplicity? Definitely - they can surely be repaired in any field situation. Assembly and parts quality (The last, very important question)? No idea - if that one is in place this is one helluva vehicle. If not - forget it. Anybody knows?

It's a torque wrench. They use it to check how hard it is to turn the crankshaft. This way they will know when the engine is pre-heated enough so they can use the starter, not wasting the battery's energy trying to start too early.

“Extremely silly propaganda movie”? How about the Western propaganda? I was a soldier in the buffer zone between East and West in the Cold Was and remember the silly propaganda from both sides. By experience I know that Russian vehicles are made to operate in extreme arctic climate. Below -45 degree centigrade they don’t have many competitors. Okay, they don’t have a lot of electronic toys on the dashboard, but they work where nothing else will do.
