It must be hard to set them up to ride well balanced. We only recently had Ural outfits as an official import to the UK in 2 wheel drive as the old ones with 2WD have the sidecar on the wrong side for our roads, but they have a new system on the current bikes allowing it. The new ones are a lot of money though, and not great value I don't think unless you want something a bit different. This however, is very cool, almost a classic. I hope your friend has success with his licence when able and gets a lot of pleasure from this awesome machine.

I hope he enjoys riding it too. He definitely did seem to enjoy riding lessons. And the bike has a big sentimental value, so I am sure it will mean a lot to him. I wonder what did they do, to have UK suitable versions with 2wd. Considering the driveshaft is on the wrong side, it can't be an easy solution. Did they mirror the whole engine and gearbox setup too?

@@theodorstravels They have quite a complicated setup now over here I think, I saw a cutaway show set up over at one of the bike shows a few years back, but can't remember how they did it now.

Those are neat bikes. I hope your friend has a great time getting their license for it. Sorry to hear it was sad about inheriting it.

I have seen him once since this video was recorded. He had some issues that delayed him finishing the riding school, but hopefully he will continue this coming spring, and I'll meet him on the roads or events 🙂

Thanks for this. Very enjoyable. That was a great ride.👍 Does your friend have their license now and can enjoy this lovely machine themselves?

Thank you! I believe he did not complete the road administration exam yet, but as far as I know he has every intention of doing that this spring, when the exams start again.

I have never ridden a bike with a side cart! And it has a reverse!!?? Amazing I can imagine the cornering being terrifying 😂😂

Eventually I got used to it. Speeding up or slowing down helped to turn, depending of the direction of the turn. But it's definitely not for mountain twisties or high speeds.

The reason why newURAL's are so expensive is because they have many expensive partsf from Europe. Stainless steel exhaust system costs $2,000,5 Sachs shocks $2,500, Ducati ignition $500,EFI $1,500,2 wheels drive $2,500, Brembo disc brakes, and Italian wheels, and Heidinau German tires. When my 1998 was built they made100,000 bikes a year ,now they only make 20,000 motorcycles a year. All the Russian parts on my 25 years old motorcycle are still working. The fancy stuff is nice but not necessary. With the Russian parts bikes would be 1/2 the price. Used URALs go for bargin prices with low mileage.

I used my side car outfit for every day transportation after my bike wreck destroyed my BMW 100/7 for 3 years. Women love sitting in the side car. Dogs love them too.

I can imagine dogs enjoying riding in the sidecar. There are many videos online of various solutions, how to bring dogs with, but the sidecar already exists 🙂
