Being a Civil War reenactor, I love learning new things. The fact that you would be turned away if you showed up at the wrong Corp field hospital was something I found extremely interesting. I never knew or even considered that. Fantastic video, as always!

How fun this experience was to actually visit the town and learn about that battle carrying over into the town. My favorite is seeing the “witness tree” and the actual photo of that tree . If only that tree could talk!

There are actually a few witness trees still alive. There are a couple in town right next to each other plus several in and around the battlefield. If you do some research online about the trees, you might have to dig, but it's worth the time. If you're close enough to Gettysburg to visit and see these this trees. It's leaves you with a great deal of satisfaction. Good luck

Two Southern soldiers that were fighting at Culps Hill, at night on the first day, ducked into a house in south Gettysburg to get a few hours sleep. Another fellow soldier stood out front and after a few hours went in to wake them up and return to the fighting.

It is staggering to imagine the amount of munitions from both sides of the conflict that were fired during the duration of the battle. Can't imagine the fear that family experienced when that unexploded live shell rolled into the room they were in! So many stories that have not been told... Thank you for another well done video and for preserving the history.

Any but me notice how the Hotchkiss shell seemed to never go off when they hit?Down at the James river there was a sharp duel between two pieces on opposite sides the Confederate Hotchkiss fired six rounds and none exploded. The duel was watched by troops on both side and in the 80s I went a gun show in Richmond at the state fair grounds and there was all six round dug out of the river bank. The guy tracked the location and found them.👍

I had the good fortune and privilege of getting Tim Smith for a personal tour that the visitor center offers(which I highly recommend),way back in November of 1992. I had been studying the battle pretty seriously and just had a tremendous time touring the field with Tim. After a three hour tour we did another three hours the next day lol. Hanging out at The Farnsworth House tavern and discussing the battle with historians and authors like William Frassanito, Greg Coco and Tim is something I'll never forget.Tim told me I should move to Gettysburg and become a tour guide...and I came close to doing so, even had the guide test scheduled, all those years ago. It's woken up in me again. I still dream of moving there.

A comment on the final comments in vid: many people continue to confuse "smart" with "knowledgable". "Smart" is innate intelligence, knowledgable is having and being able to relate information relating to something. MANY 'smart' people don't have any 'knowledge' that is worth relating, but even a not-smart person with knowledge is worthwhile.

Excellent video but of course there is so much more to be said about the fighting in the town of Gettysburg - e.g. the killing of Rev. Horatio S. Howell on the steps of Christ Lutheran Church July 1st. Just finished reading Dan Welch's essay "Mainly a History of Individuals" in The Summer of 63 on the Federal retreat through the town.

My family from Potter Co, PA were in the PA 17th Cavalry. Capt. Reppard sometimes spelled Repart and several of his sons were at Gettysburg serving also in the 17th. It would be helpful to know what the caliber of rifles these men used and the manufacturers. I’m sure they were at least.50 cal by the size of the remnant slugs shown in your videos. Just curious. I am a combat Vietnam veteran and when I was a kid growing up in Northwestern PA now living in Civil war remnant Kentucky it has always been a fascinating read and study about the soldier at arms and his weapon. Have you been to the battle site at St. Francisville in Louisiana? Fascinating story there! Excellent armament display. Great battle.
