For beautiful buildings you need classical or traditional European styles, Vitruvius, Palladio, Alberti etc For good transport & cycling you need Dutch standards. For efficient buildings you need German PassivHaus as a minimum performance standard. If it looks like Bruge or Paris, cycles like Arnhem and costs you nothing to heat you have a winning formula to improve quality of life.
