I watched a lot of urban planning videos on Europe and US. Glad to see one on Klang Valley. Hope to see something more like this in the future!

I've visited many countries and lived on 4 continents but I've never seen a city built so randomly like KL. It's either there is no planning at all or the planners are a bunch of chimps. Absurdities like roundabouts with 1 entrance and 1 exit, 5-lane road making a nearly 360-deg turn, lanes suddenly disappearing, flyovers over flyovers, jam on the highway, jam in residential areas, no sidewalks, inadequate public transport...

Wow now can actually become an urban planning channel also. Like city beautiful and notjustbikes.

There wasn't a city planning back then but over the past 10 years or so, KL has step up with its city planning. Give it time, I believe KL can be a global city too.

Dammit, sad to hear that. What about public transit availability (e.g. MRT)?

Every shop lot or neighbourhood has 1 car dealership, 2 motorcycle dealerships, 3 tyre shops and 4 bengkel kereta. Seriously though, sometimes i imagine a scenario where every malaysian pools together the money that wouldve gone into buying that extra car/motorcycle- and somehow that money would instantly materialise as beautiful sidewalks and efficient public transport. A useless fantasy, but i think its a tradeoff that every Malaysian would love.

finally, a video about urban planning for malaysian cities. altho i am a lil bit peeved that you use subang jaya in a kuala lumpur video (altho yeah subang jaya's traffic is awful.. sincerely someone who lives in subang jaya)

Atlanta and Barcelona has been a good example of urban sprawl due to their similar population size and wealth but vastly different built-up area. www.washingtonpost.com/news/wonk/wp/2014/09/22/how-compact-cities-help-curb-climate-change/

Pleasantly surprised to see that this video essay was made 2 years before Not Just Bikes' KZbin channel was even born. I wonder how much walkability has improved in KL by now, 6 years after this video was made. Which course were you studying while making this video, if you don't mind me asking? Something related to civil engineering or urban planning?

New York while it looked big and fascinating its terribly planned mainly because of the grid, a nightmare traffic and sure its better than KL in terms of neatly placed building but its still a car centric city, little to none public transport so many useless car parking area Great video btw

How redundant is that doubleparkr app? The simplest way to deal with double parking is just to write your number and leave it on your dashboard. Seriously they expect people to download an app just for this?

by depleting other cities and States in Malaysia, KLian enjoys the national growth in terms of accessibility to infrastructure. It is a great video of picturing the issues faced every Malaysian living in KL, but what about other places such as Sarawak and Sabah? Do you know Sabah is a State with 10% of total population and consists 22% of total land area of Malaysia? Yet, we do not get any chance to enjoy LRT, MRT, BRT, TOD etc like KLian who has been enjoying it for many years. Land matter is no doubt in legislation a state regulated matter, however, town and country planning are listed in the concurrent list. National Physical Plan (NPP) does not include Sabah and Sarawak, and they got away by adopting the weak 'revised' and 'new' Structure Plan (in which has been abolished many years ago by British and Australian). If KLian think they have a bigger issue, look at Sabah and Sarawak and think twice, why East Malaysia is still far behind and not enojying the same benefits equally.

The phenomenon of urban sprawl - which came about as a result of the city's urban planning - is an issue that encompasses the entire greater KL area. Check out this paper about it. malaysiacities.mit.edu/paperNaeem

Why cant we just demolish the roads and turn it into pedestrian walk with bicycle lane?Healtier lifestyle and reduce car usage which means less pollution.Maybe you should do a survey on that suggestion?
@XanderKua7 жыл бұрын
Well we can but the real problem is the distance between everything is just too far if we were to do as you've said we must first make the city more dense. At this moment scaling down the highway is just as bad as having more of them

more cities in a cities concept with public transport.Then, apply the Europe 'Superblock"
@ReefearEapear7 жыл бұрын
I heard about the "Superblock" concept from Europe especially it applied in Paris already. It works and to minimize congestion, and very safe to the pedestrian. People will walk more and the city is much quieter hence reduce carbon emissions. Kuala Lumpur is difficult because KL is not built by blocks. They built by Lot and its jalan belit2 macam ular.
@fdzy7 жыл бұрын
are you insane???. Malaysia is tropical country..it is very hot..n rainy some more. Kl just need efficient public transport.
@ReefearEapear7 жыл бұрын
angelito It still liveable and we are used to be in that weather. About public transport, since 2015, there have a lot of improvement in public transport in KL especially now we already have MRT or Mass Rapid Transit, and upgrading LRT, Monorail, our buses are newest and much more frequent than before.
