This massive old mansion was built in the early 1900’s for a stock market mogul who made a large fortune from railroad and coal stocks. The house was built between 1906-1910 as a getaway from the hot summers in New York city. After the market collapse in 1929 and the onset of the Great Depression, the family was forced to sell the mansion and for a decade it sat vacant until after world war 2 when it was purchased and revamped/remodeled into a resort getaway in the mountains. The business was successful for a few decades and even had a few motel type buildings added in the 1970’s. Sometime in the 1990’s business began to decline and the place was shut down for a final time in need of major work and maintenance. Now it sits crumbling away perched along the mountainsides. Beautiful old house wish I could’ve gotten there sooner. Thank you for watching. Like and leave a comment if you enjoyed. Thank you!

All that water dripping down by the stairs is the house crying. Seriously though,I’ll never understand how someone, anyone can just let these houses just sit and rot away. The furniture in them too. It tears my heart out. 😢What a waste! The least they could do is reclaim some of the wood and other things. It’s sickening.

Wonderful tour here! We recently visited a historic site with a large old mansion similar to this one, an old vacation home and lands of one of the many Rockefellers. There are rooms outside of bedrooms, like porch rooms, where guests and family could sleep at night with all the fresh air and views. Looks like this has the same type of setup, because in its heyday, there would be many friends of the family staying here. They would want all the private bathrooms and sleeping porches for the guests, and a huge kitchen with the ability to serve many meals for everyone. The men were probably out exploring and hunting on those lands too. Thank you for all your great videos, been watching for several years🌷🐦

This video is a cautionary tale of the wastefulness of conspicuous consumption. The mansion was built as a temporary home and showplace with no thought for the future generations inheriting it and having to pay for the upkeep. While beautiful long ago, ultimately it crumbles and rots. That said, it was magnificent in the day. I love the woodwork and windows. Got a lot of wallpaper screen captures for my scrapbook. Interesting how they broke up the front of the house from the staff facilities in the back, very efficient and I'm sure helpful when they turned it into a resort. Love this upload, thank you as always. 🤗

That’s the reason the typical haunted house is a Victorian era mansion; because they were so ostentatious they fell into disrepair due to the cost of upkeep in two generations and looked frightening.

You assume it was just for show. Maybe he had a big family or hoped to have one, and maybe he had guests stay over from time to time. In older times transportation wasn't what it is today. Very often business people would meet at someone's house to discuss business, and stay the night. Also, this house is huge, but not ostentatious. In fact, it's rather plain jane for a mansion.

The old cast iron stove/oven is phenomenal! I can't imagine what a place that large would cost to run, but if you're very wealthy it probably doesn't matter. Gotta love all them bathrooms. Ya never have to wait, lol. Again, another place with such a breath taking view! God's country! Gotta say I love being in the mountains. I've been in multiple mountains from the east coast to the west coast and through Arkansas and Missouri. There's a peacefulness up so high away from the rest of the world. Chal up another awesome adventure. Kappy, you're the best, and thanks for taking us along. 🤠👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😊

So sad, this must have been very lovely at one time; the decay alone is bad enough, the vanals only made things worse.

I love old Victorian homes. Aren't you scared the homes are haunted or a squatter is there. Plus, wouldn't it be better to use a drone to go in collapsed rooms so you won't get hurt. How sad these homes should be fixed as museums and not wasted to time and vandals.

What a beautiful place. Too bad it is in such bad shape though. Love all the French doors and pocket doors. Would have been the place to stay if skiing though. Have a great day and safe travels

So sad what a gorgeous old house, I would have loved to had seen it in its glory days. I'll never understand why people let these gorgeous old houses rot and fall apart.

That was incredible Kappy. I can just imagine it back in the day. Is it me or do you find it strange that the “motels” don’t match the mansion at all. I think they look awful. Hope you enjoyed your trip here
