I really prefer the 1/4 mi. over the 1/8 mi. I get why you run it. But I'm stuck in the 70's 80's and 90's. Same for the NHRA Pro series. I wish they still ran the full 1320 ft.

It really doesn't matter if it's 1/4 or 1/8 mile it's still Drag Racing. I look at it as you won't have to run your engine as long you'll have less stress on the engine. But really I'll be happy with either one as long as I'm Drag Racing...🇺🇸💯

The thing that impresses me about Chief's car is he's running a Pontiac motor rather than doing what most do and run a version of a big block Chevy in their car. He's been running a old school Pontiac motor nor the new version like NHRA Pro Stockers used which was basically a Chevy big block with a version of Pontiac Heads never offered on the street. If I saw them right on one of the older Shows of Street Outlaws Chief had Ram Air IV heads which are from the late 60's early 70's with round exhaust ports.

john mac -- that just shows how much a turbo or nitrous can boost the power of a engine. Back in the late 60's and 70's guys had little success with turbos and the nitrous kits of the day were subject to melt the pistons because the solenoids were so unpredictable. Plus no sanction allow nitrous back then. Even the local track bracket racers would be banned if caught with it back then. The first real successful drag racer to use as turbo that I remember was Buddy Ingersoll when ran one on a four cylinder Pinto and later a V6 Buick. Both cars were badass for those days.

Since people are making comparisons maybe someone could tell me about another car in the 3s with factory style heads. Every 3 second car I ever saw except for the Crowmod has full race heads that barely resemble the original design. Chief's Edelbrocks are an optimized version of the production Ram Air 4 head.

I think it's more noble to build your own cars...with no one else's money backing you if you're trying to project how good of a car builder you are. My '23 Track Roadster is pretty much a show car, but it runs 6 flat in track trim. My last Dragster I built was a '67 Chevy II back half car called "Razzle Dazzle". 355 small block...1 kit...went 5.10 1/8th mile on a 14 inch slick. Sold it to build the Roadster.

Chief's pro mod doesn't even have a radiator, it has a container with ice water in the rear of the car, so it would be flat out getting out the parking lot before it over heated let alone across the country. Besides unlike you I have actually been part of a pit crew working on blown alcohol cars making similar power to these 20 years ago, and the mere thought of driving a car like this any kind of distance is just plain crazy. If the unfiltered engine noise didn't deafen you, and the fumes didn't choke you, the ride would most certain rattle out any fillings in your head by the time you get there, and that is after stopping a dozen times an hour to refill the smallish fuel cell in the front of the car. So how does one know they are low on fuel in this car, well it just stops because there is no fuel gauge, so there you are on the side of the road with the front clip off filling up the fuel cell, too bad if it happened to run out of fuel in a place where there was no room to pull over... These are just a few reasons off the top of my head of why "Chiefs" car couldn't take part in drag week and drive from drag strip to drag strip. Oh and do you honestly think this car would make it from destination to destination without breaking down? These car make the sort of power they do at the cost of reliability and even if it is super reliable you still have to do ongoing maintenance to keep it running. Any car that needs rockers adjusted and oil pans pulled off after every run / every couple of runs is not designed for touring across the country. I am a big Chief fan but I live in the real world.

+Bigbansheemike I know Americans have a very loose definition of what a street car is, but I could jump in my "street car" and drive backwards and forwards across America umpteen times without having to do anything more that stop at a service stations and put in regularly available fuel. If chief has to modify his car from it's current state by removing the fuel cell from the front of the car and move it to the back so it can be filled on a regular basis, and fitting a radiator to the front of the car which would mean chopping up the front of the car to let air in and probably have the radiator sitting above the bonnet line to have enough area to cool it, and then having to fit wiring switches and headlights to be able to see when it get dark, and have to change to tires that would go more than a few miles before they needed replacing then he is no longer driving his current "street car" is he? That would be like me saying if I take the 1000cc motor out of my bike and put a 10cc motor in there and ride very slowly I could go from one side of America to the other on one tank of fuel. Just like Chief attending Drag Week possible but highly improbable.
