8:00 this is the only time i actually choose high-viz. I hate the color any other time, but for any heavy rain i prefer high viz. It also helps distinguish the jacket from the trouser

In my 30 years of experience wearing all the different types of fabrics..I have come to the conclusion that if you truly want to stay dry then you wear Wax Cotton..if you travel any significant distance or out for long periods of time wax cotton is the only product that actually works. If you are an urban city rider then a waterproof 'over jacket' - 'pull on trousers' is ideally the most protective.. in my experience all the modern fabrics give up over time and need replacing wax cotton can be re-waxed and repaired if damaged.. waterproof over jackets/trousers are cheap enough to replace when worn out.. don't waste your money on expensive technical kit.

Thanks for the heads up. Being a new rider and mainly pottering around suburbia/town/city…I invested in (what I think) an expensive over-trouser…..I was specifically after not just something waterproof but also high-vis seeing as the days are getting shorter here in Blighty….might get a chance to test it tomorrow as it’s supposed to be quite heavy rain down south …..and if it does, it’ll be my first ride in the wet ….😂

In 30 years of commuting the only kit to keep me completely dry are my Hideout custom 2 piece textiles, made to order, flipping expensive but worth every penny when you are riding all year round.
@clivewilliams36614 ай бұрын
I bought my kit some time ago based on 'Best Buy' advice. The helmet is Arai Quantum that is absolutely perfect for fit and protection. The Suit is a Spada full textile for suspect weather conditions and the boots are Oxtar Gore-tex that are perfect fit and totally waterproof The gloves were Hein Gericke Sympatex leather gloves. The worst conditions I have ridden in was a 3 hour trip from Southend to Leicester via M11/A14/M1 in conditions that I describe as 'Power Boating' The bike never missed a beat and I arrived home fully dry inside the gear I carry an over suit as a back up when I'm not wearing the full kit but this makes me wetter inside than out.

I absolutely agree with you about outer layers. I use the Scott ergo from more than 5 years (just one Scott pant failed between legs after 4 years of daily riding). Great product ! Outer layer keeps your cloth dry and you don't have to let your motorcycle gear dry for hours or all night long + it's efficient and reliable. Layers can be packed in dry bags after rain and let it dry back home. The down side is that, if your riding without them, you have to park the bike to wear your outer layers (if it already raining...).

I spent years using hiking waterproofs but they’re just not durable enough i had many holes and zip failures. The Scott ergo jacket has been the best by far for torrential rain. My belstaff crosby has been daily use through winter months for 7 years now and still perfect. Just needs re-waxing from time to time. Genuinely spot on advice in this video, thanks

Great Video. Thank you. As a newbee (4y) i had to learn it the hard way, that waterproof doesn't mean waterproof. And i can totaly aggree with most comments made here: •Cotton Wax! Great. I own the legendgear panniers, and troubled myself with waxing them, (4 times waxing and baking it in) and i never needed the inlays again. •Motorcyclebrands are too expensive for outer layers. I do use my decathlon hiking gear and it never failed me so far, and of course i can use it for hikingg as well. Wich, the other way round wouldn't work half as good, and not half as good looking.... As for boots, after quite some time of returning "waterproof" boots to the store, i had, and have my best time with some Stylemartin Rockets. But even with them i tend to have some of theese ugly trashbaglike things to put over them when its going to get biblical.. same for the gloves. Nevertheless when the world seems to come to an end, my - now - waxlayered panniers would be a little moist on the inside but still waterproof in my eyes.... ending here, my best antifog i had so far is an open/cross helmet and googles. Getting a little wet round the neck, wich can be solved by a good buff, but ways more secure concerning visibility in the rain. I've never had a issue with visibility on the street. And especially in the rain you don't want to miss anything going on traficwise.....

Carrier bags over your socks, before putting your boots on - works a treat, and I've never had wet or sweaty feet using that method (I do have WP boots BTW) Some people highly recommend some of the RAF over suits too, cheaper than motorcycle specific ones, and allegedly they're very WP - never looked into it myself though

Reference pinlock in the Summer take it of your visor to let it dry out, because it absorbs moisture while on the visor , so it will work properly again . Reference waterproofing getting laminated kit it works a lot better than layers ( 53 years experience.reference a layer of water on the outside of your jacket , while in the winter it freezes and your really driving in a fridge not good . And it’s heavier 🤪😊👍

Great video cheers. Here in Ireland it never seems to stop raining so we need very good waterproof gear to enjoy all year round motorcycling. I am 95% sorted with staying dry on an all day raining spin, by reading others advice and trying different kit. Am enjoying this challenge “staying dry” as a project before retirement next year, -as work is interfering with my biking. The 5% that has failed me is around the neck and back of the helmet. Any advice would be greatly welcomed. I have the Scott hi-neck over jacket and tried 6 different storm collars 😂. And no I won’t use a car.

One name you didn't mention was Knox. I know we tend to think of their mesh jackets as summer gear, but they're also really good when the weather turns wet, because you're separating the protective layer from the insulating and waterproof layers, so you can tailor what you wear, and use the best gear without being restricted to motorcycle only clothing. I'm personally not that keen on Knox's own outer layers, they're a bit too fell-walker for me, perhaps because they're based in Cumbria, but a Knox Urbane Pro combined with decent outdoor gear works really well, and doesn't weigh you down half as much as a single motorbike jacket that's trying to do everything at once.

I've used a North Face waterproof outer layer for over 10 years and have now replaced it with one from Arcterix. I just find that I can have it in my bag always with me, regardless of whether I'm on or off the bike. For my bag I use Yeti backpack, it's technically water resistant, but I've been heavily rained on and it has done the job well enough. My laptop and all the internals were kept dry

FCC rule number 15 is a 300+ part rule. They only tell you two dumbed down pieces of it in every owners manual for anything electronic purchased nowadays. The rule states that all electronic devices are listening to us and communicating with each other. If you modify the electronics to remove the fcc rule 15 piece of it it's a felony and any electronics pre FCC rule 15 will eventually stop working because of the new frequency that is in the air, but I'm sure you have already heard this buzzing through your mind......?!?

Avoid opening your visor in wet weather, which will allow raindrops to run down its inner surface. When you stop for fuel or to garage your bike, for example, remove your helmet without opening the visor.

Used to swear by laminated and wore goretex or equivalent kit for years. Now moved on to layering using drop liner kit and Scott and Revit waterproofs, a much more flexible option and so easy to adjust to our variable weather. It’s also a lot better vfm than overpriced and in my opinion overrated Goretex. Always wear waterproof boots even in Summer….gloves I have two pairs one Summer and one fully waterproof both by Knox. Luggage is all SW Motech and soft, hard luggage is ugly and heavy and I don’t leave my bike far when I’m touring…

The outer layer is so much better. Textiles always leak, Gore-Tex, not worth the money You pay for it, at least with the outer layer. If you're on holiday and it's sunny, you can wear your jeans and a nice jacket and if it does rain you can just Chuck on the outer layer and still enjoy the ride.

The bloody crotch is where my "water proof" pants always fail!!!!
@thefellcor4 ай бұрын
I have the same issue with 10 bucks waterproof jacket and pants (both items add up to 10 bucks) rain gear. The plastic at the cross stitching at the crotch area of the pants tend to wear off faster than the other parts. When they don't, sit further in your seat. The rain pants meant it's water proof if it's rain or water sprayer at you. But it doesn't mean it's totally impermeable. So if you sit too close to the tank, there is an inverted cone area between your crotch and the tank where water will collect and eventually seep through the pants. That's the only place the rain gear failed me too. It's only when I changed to a different bike that I felt suddenly the issue doesn't happen anymore, because the tank of the new bike is not at the same place as my old bike.

I always found wax cotton very good even in the wettest conditions however its effectiveness does depend on the tightness of the cotton fabric and the viscosity of the wax treatment itself I found the Barbour wax was by far the best and would waterproof a pair of Y fronts should your over trousers spring a leak around the crotch. As for waterproof boots nothing beats a pair of rubber wellies and rubber soles will also last much longer than anything else during spirited riding through the twisties when they come into contact with the road.

The problem i see is the complete and total disappearance of big powerful bike riders disappearing like flies in winter from U.K roads cos they’re scared sh*#less of riding. I have the ultimate riding dry gear. And tbh the only thing u need to keep ontop of-is keeping your sprocket(s) and chain clean and lubed. The bike is going to get wrecked. Just focus on maintaining good protection on metal components. Forget the plastics till you know you have 3-4 good dry days
