In this episode I chat about a surprise bill from FedEx - the third party courier service provider is asking for a payment from me to cover a CAD $39 handling fee of my Premier Yarns order I made on premieryarns.com. The order of yarn was US $39 in total (not to mention that I paid US $25.95 in shipping fees on top of that when I made the Premier Yarns order). Can anyone confirm what the Premier shipping fee covers when you pay at the time of purchase?
Also in this video I catch you up on my finished makes over the last two weeks. Yay a crochet blanket I started back earlier in 2021 is now completed! This didn’t have a pattern but it helped me busted through 5 lbs (2.26 kg) of yarn. Same thing happened on my order from Premier. FedEx charged me the duty and taxes and handling fees based on the non sale price. I won't order from Premier again. It was very disappointing and certainly made for expensive yarn. Thanks for flagging this for fellow Canadians. I love your finished blanket, your colour and yarn combinations on all your projects are amazing and I'm always in awe.

Premier may not realize that third party charges these additional fees. You should send them a letter and include a copy of the charges for Canada they may be able to find another way to ship to you with out the extra charges

FedEx loves that week delay of sending that extra bill because you've already accepted the package. I bought a tee shirt from the US for $25 with $20 shipping fees online. Tee shirt ended up costing me $100! I noticed Little Knits can give 2 types of shipping options to Canada. The companies are often not aware of the significant brokage fees the couriers charge. For any future orders from the US, I'm requesting USPS. It maybe a little bit more on the front end but the lower brokerage fees make up for it. For one shipment, USPS charged $10 where FedEx charged $60. Love your projects. Hope you are well out there ... The lower mainland in BC is really suffering.

Hi Gary! Love your scarf. That extra cost is why I will not be ordering anything from you US. I would love to, but I just can’t afford it. Maybe someday I will be able to travel there & get my yarn. The extra frees can also come from DHL. Which is usually from the UK. Loving 🥰 that blanket. I love colours & that blanket really brightens up the room. Oh my, you always create such amazing hats. I detest FedEx!!! Smashed packages, 2 packages leave a location at the same time, I get them 2 weeks apart, not following delivery instructions, a package that's coming from a 4 hour drive for me, takes over a week, I tracked one package went back and forth between cities north AND south of me at least 3 times... (That means it passed within a mile of my residence six times before I got it), I can go on....just awful!! I've learned "on truck waiting for delivery" means it's on a truck in the parking lot waiting for a driver.... sometimes for 2 days (the hub is 30 miles from me) UPS isn't much better, constantly delivery to a wrong address, one driver actually tore up my driveway peeling out!!! But your projects are amazing!! Chad is adorable in the beanie. Love how you boldly mix fibers & it always comes out perfect!! 😉😊

I have avoided ordering from non european countries because of this grey area not so much on the customs like you say we need to pay our taxes, but on those process/handling fees by the shipping companies. Thanks for bringing up this topic - Additional charges was an issue for me too. I got dinged with a $90 surcharge on top of shipping charges for a yarn order that came from an online store in the U.S. What a shock :(! They couldn’t do anything to credit me so going forward, unfortunately, I am very reluctant to purchase anything outside of Canada. Love your show :)

I agree that there should not be any surprises when it comes to shipping costs. We (on U.S. side and Canada side) need a 3rd party service which will purchase and ship purchases to us, particularly for vendors such as Michaels Canada who will not allow U.S. buyers to purchase inventory that is unavailable in the U.S. (and vice-versa). Shipping prices are going up. Not good. Love the name "Ferry Godmother". Great service.

Premiere yarns says on its website (if you search for shipping info): "International Orders may be charged additional customs fees along with the shipping fees payed to Premier Yarns. Customer is responsible for the customs/ import fees for international orders." This is nice, except it provides no clue about what those costs are. If they can't give an estimate to customers, they won't get repeat orders.

So sorry about the exuberant charge on your U.S. yarn order. I order most of my yarn from Wool Warehouse in the UK, and I only pay their low shipping cost; DSL is the carrier they use. It only takes 3 days for the yummy yarn to show up at my door in Venetia Pennsylvania. The closest craft shop is 45 minutes away, and a knitting wool shop is a 85 minute drive in rather heavy highway traffic, so I mostly do my shopping on-line. I live in Ottawa, Canada, I have bought from Hobbii and have had no problems as Hobbii ships through Canada Post. Yarnspirations have a Canadian site in CDN dollars, never a problem with shipping from them and also Lionbrand has CDN prices and never a problem with them. I found that you had to read the shipping instructions at checkout. I’ve never had a problem with duty of extra fees.

good morning Gary, first thanks for the videos i watch them all. I purchased a bag of tangled yarn from Cambridge yarn co - never again. It's a good experience but not worth the grief of untangling the mess. All that aside , I have a ton of short ends & many different colours etc. I love the blanket you showed on this video and wondered what stitch you used. That's a terrible experience with FedEx. Beautiful Blanket. Love the hat. The orange of course is beautiful. I'm currently working on yours. Still on the brim (HAHAHAHA). I might have it done by the end of next year. I've not watched any of those shows. I attempted the Tiger King but about 10 minutes in I was done. Love all you have done.

My husband and I had to pay $20 to a handyman to put together an IKEA bookcase and affix it to the wall! We are both unable to build furniture! I'm starting season 2 of Tiger King too.
