I really appreciate your videos! They have helped me navigate as I finish up my last couple months of PA school. Quick question! Or this might be a good video for the future. How was your transition from a new graduate into working in Urgent Care? I want to work in UC or EM but am looking for a location that has at least 1 attending or another provider there during my shift. I just had an interview at a local UC clinic and was told that I would be the only provider there. Kind of scary for a new graduate but I would love to hear about your experience in UC as a new graduate :)

Great video by the way. I am an unemployed PA-C (two years). I loved taking care of Px during my ER clinical rotations. Getting pertinent info, cleaning woundss, anesthizing wounds and suturing were my favorites. I remembered having a suicidal 20 y/o female Px who cut herself with broken ceramic on the left ant. forearm from the radial wrist diagonally up to the elbow (ulna side). I remembered speaking to her with innate compassion and empathy 🙏. Just finished paying off part of my student loans (amazon, ubereats and doordash deliveries). Luckily as an engineer and self taught car repair guy, i fix my car to keep the overhead down 🙏. Poverty is no joke. Where I am, it is highly competitive to find a PA position. I currently volunteer at a pediatrician office doing MA stuff. He can't afford ro hire me but will give me a high recommendation . He is a great doctor because he is extremely nice and works the low income communities 😊

I'm an Urgent Care PA too. Practicing about 11 months now. Do you get patient's that question your knowledge or credibility when you're not wearing a white coat? I just so happened to notice that when I'm not in my white coat, I find that I have to reiterate the things I counsel patients. It's as if they don't trust what I'm saying. I'm probably over-thinking it, but I've been wearing my white coat more often now cause I just don't have the time to sit there and repeat myself 3 times when wait times are almost 2 hours hahaha

Thank you Dani for this informative video! I have been job hunting for a few months now and am considering an urgent care position as a new graduate PA! However, I have heard a lot of horror stories about the lack of supervision, liability, and improper/rushed training in the UC setting. How did you tackle this and do you always have an SP on-site with you? I was told my practice trains their PAs to become independent providers by their 6th-10th week of training and SPs will not be on-site 24/7, but they can be reached via phone. Is your practice similar? If so, do you believe it is doable or highly risky? I would appreciate any tips!!

Also work in an UC as a R.T.(R). I've been there for almost 2 years now. Love my job and coworkers. The P.A. there has bestowed tons of knowledge upon me and wants me to go back for P.A. I am 41, have 2 young kids, and a new home, which makes the thought of going back to school seem impossible. I have mulled over it for a few months and decided against it. Glad I found your channel. Awesome content. By the way, we need another P.A. here!

I’m starting a UC position this October. They have single provider clinics as well as multiple provider clinics. My question is what is your typical pt volume. They expect 3-4 pts per hour which can seem daunting for a new grad. Any tips to make the transition a bit smoother would be greatly appreciated. Cheers!
