@@arizorki so true 😔 I suffer from a condition in which our State of Queensland (in Australia) only has 5 specialised Public Health beds available to treat it. I nearly died waiting 7 years for one of those beds - and only because I live in the same city as that public hospital was I fortunate enough to even have a CHANCE of getting one of those beds. Enter the Private Health sector... yes, they do offer many more specialised treatment opportunities than what our government provides - so of course we pay Private Health Insurance to access this treatment if needed. But you’re absolutely right... money is the number one priority for those in various levels of management. Not just to the point where treatment conditions are ‘unsatisfactory’ - but to the point where they are clearly detrimental and negligent - to both the patients AND the staff who are stuck working within these tight ‘budgets’. Some of the choices this particular Private Health company make which negatively affect various aspects of the Private hospitals under its power are truly disgusting - especially when even just as a patient you can so clearly see how the care provided is “money driven”. (In case anyone wants to know, the international private healthcare company I’m referring to here is Ramsay Health Care)
@a.7889-v8f
@a.7889-v8f 3 жыл бұрын
I agree. So sad that it isn’t that way 😔 Even though various countries throughout the world have vastly different levels of health care available (in both Public* and Private Health Care Systems), I think it’s safe to say that almost everywhere there is someone, somewhere, who has the power and financial ability to focus more on patient (and staff) well-being and less on financial management/political management. Yet those people aren’t willing to step up and do it. *(the ‘Public’ Health System is the term Australia uses to refer to government provided healthcare. Over here it’s called Medicare. In the U.S.A. it USED to be called Obamacare - no idea what it’s currently like under Trump sorry 😕).
@shannonwatson5769
@shannonwatson5769 3 жыл бұрын
The public health care system in the UK also works like this. I used to work in the operations department (responsible for the flow of patients and running of the hospital) of a NHS hospital and it is genuinely disgusting the way hospitals are forced to operate because they are run like businesses. ED's and wards are expected to treat and turn over patients like they are customers in a drive through (they had time targets to get the patient out of the department in the ED or the hospital is fined. Which yes, nobody likes to be sat in ED for hours on end but it does not take into account the seriousness of the patients conditions; sometimes the staff are too wrapped up in saving a child's life, sometimes that patient is dying and its better to allow for them to die in the ED where the family members can find them to say goodbye than waste precious moments shoving them on a ward); all department and wards dangerously under staffed because the executive directors will not give the matrons more money in their departments budgets to hire more nurses and yet, fork out millions to the private company, that provides nurse staff on loan essentially but charge 4x the cost of a nurses salary, to bring the numbers up to minimum, and I mean minimum, safe levels. This typically meant 2 nurses to a 30 patient ward. I remember a good few times where they had 1 nurse to a 40 patient ward.

In my clinic recently some flyers showed up, which suggests mandatory 2 weeks per year working on a ward for everybody in Management positions. The Management didn't liked the idea. It's not entirely the same, but I often feel like management forgets the patients that couldn't complain. (and the struggles of not enough time/personel/material resources per patient. Simple the everyday.) Sorry I'm frustrated and watch Chicago Med clips to remember why I like my job...

This happened 2 years ago : one day new neighbors moved in our neighborhood. They seemed pretty cool and normal . Another day while I’m on my phone I see a bunch of red and blue lights next to my house . And we find out that the neighbors that just moved in not so long ago where actually drug dealers . not your typical drug but in fact fentanyl . The cops etc.. stayed all night to clean the house and to make sure that the air was breathable . And just a side note . There wasn’t just a bit of fentanyl there was a whole factory! Anyways , it’s scary to think that this one small flake of fentanyl can cause big Health problems and can possibly kill you . The sad part is that there are a lot of children and families in this neighborhood ..

Fentanyl is dangerous, but not "breathe the air outside when there's a fentanyl lab in a building nearby and you die"-dangerous. It is widely overblown in cop and medical shows how dangerous this drug is, which carries real risks for patients that were exposed, because first responders might be too scared to even touch them, when there's no real possibility of them getting an overdose just from treating a patient.

*I’m on Fentanyl patches. 50 MICROgrams. It’s 60x stronger than Morphine. It’s because I have Chronic Pain Syndrome. Because my knee dislocates multiple times everyday, upto 40x on one day!! It’s awful pain. Luckily it’s doing better. So I’m slowly coming down off of it. You have to come off it 12micrograms (smallest patch dose) at a time, so that you don’t have withdrawals. I’m glad I’m coming off of it.*

It’s not that dangerous. It can’t be absorbed through the skin like they’re saying. You have to ingest, inhale, or inject it for it to affect you. It’s why it’s safe for volunteers and outreach workers to train and carry NARCAN if they work with high-risk persons. It you could absorb it through the skin then that would be too much risk. It’s true that an incredibly small amount can lead to overdose, but it’s also a pretty commonly used painkiller in hospitals and by emergency first responders. It’s more powerful and fast-acting than morphine and requires a smaller dose to be effective. Medical professionals wouldn’t use it if could be absorbed on contact like that, it’d be way too risky

fentanyl and carfentanil addict here from 16 to 22. Almost a year clean. You need to smoke, snort, plug, or swallow it to get high. Touching won't hurt you, if its pure stuff maybe but still very unlikely, ERs see overdoses all the time and aslong as you're gloved up you can breathe into airways and inject narcan without any real risk other than the patient waking up and being angered. I've had to naloxone tens of people in my addiction, please get a kit you never know when you could save someone's life and if you're struggling keep trying you can do it. Any questions for a drug war vet leave em below. Cheers

I like that this episode highlights the deficiencies in the health systems in place in American Hospitals whereby the patients come after the profits. It's wrong on so many levels

I love Chicago med, but the board was a total joke. Ms. Goodwin made the right call and the right decisions.
