It is not the battery that is causing the issue. It is the sharp points on the back of the footswitch that are puncturing the battery no matter how many FCC certificates it has. You need to fix the footswitch issue as shown in this video, or better, then release a video showing what you have done to rectify the problem. I almost bought one of these. I still will as soon as I see the issue is fixed.

Safe when poked through with a pointy metal? Mine had the same issue, the outer part of the battery was damaged... I didn't even use the pedal that much, I think the damage occurred already at the assembly phase... This is very dangerous.

I bought a Tank G from Aliexpress only 2 months ago. Just yesterday I decided to open it up as I had been aware of your video when I was looking at buying the pedal. My pedal now has a thick rubber pad over top of the battery and the solder is blunt. I can definitely see marks in the rubber buffer not just where the footswitch is but also along the front. My guess is because of the rubber there is no room between the footswitch joints and the battery anymore but this is much better than pushing down with your foot and pushing it into the battery. On a side note, I bought a Tube Screamer a couple years ago. As new made in Japan so I was stoked. When I played it there was no distortion. Only the tone and volume worked. Next time I tried it there was distortion and so it went sometimes on and sometimes off. After building the courage with the Tank G I thought I would open up the Tube screamer and have a look. I thought maybe a dry solder on the gain pot but when i opened the pedal there was a tiny piece of a foil candy wrapper sitting on the board touching some of the solder contacts. My uneducated guess is this is the culprit and I couldn't see any problem with the wire to the pot. When I put it back together it works fine. So now I just need to use it off and on and see if I fixed the issue. It's good to learn how to set up your own guitar and to at least be able to look inside pedals and amps etc. Very interesting.

I thought this video was going to be BS clickbait, BUT after watching this, as an electronics engineer by trade, I can say that this is 100% legit! I would go further, IMHO. 3:06 I would file down ALL the solder joints covering the area of the battery, put sticky foam over the entire surface of the battery AND put in a shim of thin hard plastic covering the area of the battery as well. The self-adhesive strip used for draught exclusion on doors / windows should do, and for the plastic guard, a piece of an old CD or CD case should suffice.

I just checked mine, it's the Playwell version and good news is there was no battery damage, however, the contacts for the switch do need to be trimmed and covered. A little double-sided 3M tape and all is good.

It might be a smart idea too to replace the battery if you notice that its wrap is punctured or the unit was behaving weirdly due to this issue. there's always that non-zero chance that the jelly roll of the cell (that's literally what the internals are called!!) could have sustained damage that could result in future internal short circuits and fire if it hasn't already. The cell you want to look for is a type 755060 and the capacity should be 3000mAH... Although you could of course opt for a smaller cell than this. The downside is reduced runtime but the perk is that it should be less likely to interfere with the pins on the board. Especially if you also add some foam to shim the cell away from the board and protect it.

I checked mine and not only were those pins already filed smooth but there is also a foam pad protecting it. I bought mine from Temu a couple of weeks ago. Looks like they have fixed the issue on later models. Now if someone can tell me they've used the software - mine won't install for phone or PC due to warnings saying the software is malicious.

My new Tank G v2 has a piece of 3M foam to protect the battery already installed. It looks to be effective as well, as I see no marks or anything on my battery. I just opened mine to take a look, so at least they have addressed the issue.

I just took mine apart and it had the "vampire bite" on the battery exactly like the example in the video. I clipped off as much as I could from the protruding "legs" and filed them down as far as I could. I considered adding some hard plastic to the double sided tape, but there simply isn't the clearance in there to accommodate it.

I've just checked and fixed mine. It had dents in the battery pack, but not punctured. I would note that a 1.6mm or 1/16" allen key is a better fit, but 1.5mm works if you're not too heavy-handed

My understanding is that the possible fire issue of the TANK-G has since been resolved by the manufacturer. However, I do see the TANK-G offered for sale from different online outlets with two different case colors; The BLUE color and a PURPLE color. Do they simply exist in two color choices, or does the BLUE represent an older model (that may have the issue) and the PURPLE model which is newer with the issue resolved?

Hey mate! They started correcting already this issue with the new ones! You should not have this trouble anymore... of course, you can be still unlucky to get a piece which was long time stopped in stock, but I believe the probability is pretty low right now! All the other m-vave products didn't show this issue. I opened the Blackbox and it had the battery between footswitches, so no worries (and also with the protection). Sobre o Blackbox, como mostrei no vídeo de primeiras impressões, a idéia do produto é um pouco diferente da do Tank G. Ter apenas 2 footswitches e não ter conectividade com o controlador Midi da M-VAVE ainda faz dele um equipamento "limitado" ou de uso mais específico! Mas de qualquer forma, por 85 EUR, a Blackbox entrega MUITO VALOR!

Yeah it functioned but i can no longer use the direct to the phone recording and I can no longer connect the earphones since it makes a hissing sound rather than the guitar itself.

Honestly, as much as the Tank G is a cheap product, I wouldn't have bought it if I had known about this problem with the battery beforehand. Luckily, my battery wasn't punctured, so I took the necessary steps to protect it. But it is not correct that a product with such a serious defect is being sold without the company that sells it having so far made a statement about the problem and what measures it will take from now on to correct it. I like the product, but this battery problem made me never want to buy another MVave device again.
