Britta B is a spoken word poet, teaching artist, mentor and emcee. Originally from Kingston, Ontario, Britta currently resides in Toronto.
Since 2013, Britta has performed her poetry across North America in cities such as Vancouver, New York, Detroit, Montreal, and New Orleans to name a few. She's appeared on three TEDx Talks, opened for HBO's Def Poetry poets Shihan and Carlos Andrés Gómez, and has returned several times to the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts’ stage for Dwayne Morgan’s production, When Sisters Speak. In 2015, Britta toured across Canada as the resident poet for the Ask Her Talks presented by The Stephen Lewis Foundation. In April 2017, Britta was one of 15 spoken word artists-in-residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. From July-December 2017, Britta was one of 55 featured artists in the Every. Now. Then: Reframing Nationhood exhibition at the Art Gallery of Ontario. Britta an alumna of the TAC Leaders Lab and an active member of the League of Canadian Poets.
As an advocate for youth in the arts, Britta has worked as an artist educator in over 300 schools and community centres nationwide and continues to provide ongoing mentorship for emerging artists. Since 2013, Britta has mentored thousands of youth through programs initiated by organizations like UNITY Charity and Louder Than A Bomb, a city-wide poetry festival in collaboration with Leave Out Violence (Ontario). In 2016, Britta was an Artist-in-Residence for The Power Plant. At this time, she is an instructional spoken word artist for tdsbCREATES, Poetry in Voice, JAYU’s #iAM Program and Prologue Performing Arts.

About URGNT:
URGNT LIVE is a Toronto-based online venue. What started as livestream series in empty venues created in response to the COVID-19 outbreak has quickly adapted to promote social distancing and create a curated platform to present and support the best of the city's musicians. Our goals are:
to unify the arts industry in Toronto in a safe and creative way;
to raise money to pay a nominal fee to all involved parties to help with lost gigs and wages as a result of the quarantine;
to document and catalogue this unique period in history; and
to make compelling content available to audiences when they need it most.
