big Survivor fan...Across The Miles is one of the top Survivor songs that has always been underrated...Uriah Heep did justice to the song...the vocals captured the feeling and the guitar work is exceptional...sometimes a remake never lives up to the original, but this one is equally superb...

The song brings out the finest qualities of Bernie Shaws vocal range and although its survivors song, I still really like this version to,there is plenty of room in the world for really great music!

@@KB-P Yes really ! This song was sung by Jimmy Jamison (SURVIVOR). I didn't know that he was gone. Too bad! A VERY good singer was . ✝️🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷🍷🇺🇦 .

Not in my opinion, while I like it. It doesn't sound like a Heep song, by the way... It's a cover from a typical song by Survivor, indeed, written by their main founder member, keyboard/guitar player (and now occasional singer as well on the Lionheart albums) : Jim Peterik . Very late comment but anywa,y if you see it and don't know them, check out Lionheart, with Jim Peterik and Toby Hitchcock, a great singer with a very clear tenor voice, you might like their music. It's classic "AOR" stuff. My top favourite songs from Sonic Origami are The Golden Palace, Only The Young, Between Two Worlds, I Hear Voices

Jimi lets the song breathe better, he had better range for the song, however nobody has covered this song this well. This vocalist is superb.

very good song too from Uriah Heep - I know so many good songs from them, the most of them are older ones...

I agree completely....I much prefer the "Gypsy" era music and David Byrons vocals. This is too much like Journey for my liking.
@scottmcquarrie72955 жыл бұрын
@@sychambers5440 , exactly, what is wrong with journey. Journey covering this song would be epic. Jimi Jamison's voice is second only to Steve Perry in my opinion.
@Marctull663 жыл бұрын
Well, it dpends what you like in Uriah heep. I love the early albums, with touches of progressive rock, hard-rock sometimes influenced by Deep Purple but with their own style : those wonderful harmony vocals, for a start ! and all the folky, acoustic ballads, that DP never did. As for this song by UH that is actually a coverof Survivor, I think some refer to this kind of arrangement/music as Journey in the mid-80's and same for Foreigner, Survivor, REO Speedwagon too, the Styx of the 80's/90's... and many others less famous,probably.. I feel that Journey were more interesting in the beginning of Perry's era, on the four first albums of Perry's era, on the three first of that era, Greg Rolie was using mostly piano and organ and they did wonderful vocal harmonies together, the drums sounded organic, Neal Schon did splendid guitar harmonies (impossible to recreate live, alas) in this time : albums like Infinity, Evolution, Departure, also Escape, the first with jonathan Cain on keyboards/second guitar. "Frontiers" was also pretty good, more between heavy arena rock and mellow ballads with a rather cold early 80's sound... But an album like "Raised on Radio" with its electronic drums and cold keyboard sounds was too cheesy for my taste, and it wasn't a real band anymore, anyway. I think I tend to prefer Steve Perry's two first solo albums to "Raised on Radio" or "Trial By Fire", honestly. In 1978-1981, They had a more orchestral, organic sound (and I don't mention the rock/jazz-rock/prog rock era before Steve Perry entered the band). But Journey has done better albums in the 2000's... Eclipse, the latest is splendid, original, darker too, oftne epic, slightly leaning towards progressive rock structures, sometimes.

Survivor’s version is miles ahead of this one. This version is decent. Jimi Jamison’s voice has much more feeling and range. This guitar does not have the same details. With Survivor You have much more vibrator, raking, small fast pieces and two soloes.
@markhaus28303 жыл бұрын
Of course it's not quite Survivor. It's the mighty HEEP. Survivor's good but for me Uriah Heep is the better band. I'm 64 and been a HEEP fan since the early 70's.
