I think this is "Sweet Freedom" s' best song. Radio friendly, deserved to be a big hit single. Sadly, it was not released as a single. Would like Mick Box to tell us how did 3 bandmates created this gentle and beautiful song?

I believe MIck Box, Gary Thain and Lee Kerslake wrote this after the group was in Chicago and had naive women essentially throwing themselves at the band members--the women 'dressing up and walking around thinking they were Greta Garbos' as mentioned in the song The group did not think too much of Chicago at the time. At least this is what the book about David Byron said. Mick Box says it was written in Los Angeles, and this would certainly relate to the "concrete jungle" reference. Mick would probably know best since he helped write the song!

Funny thing is, I seem to remember hearing this on the car radio in my Mom's 1973 AMC Matador, and Mom would only have been listening to an easy listening station. Either that or I dreamt it, but it feels like a real memory. Sweet Freedom is my #2 favorite UH album after D&W.

Well, yeah, not typical ballad for them. In Poland I remember One Day off of this record was played on radio also short and radio friendly tune but heavier.🙂

Such a classy and beautiful song. I so much enjoyed Uriah Heep throughout my life - especially growing up during the '70's playing classical percussion in school band and folk, blues, and rock after school. Their vocals are unique, and so too their progressive rock music. Thank you, Uriah Heep.

However, if you listen to their other albums, especially "Demons and Wizards" and "Magicians Birthday" they're definitely prog rock. However, I only grew up in the Prog-rock era, attended the Seattle concert of the first Genesis U.S. Tour, and the original Pink Floyd "Darkside of the Moon" Tour, the Gental Giant "Freehand" album tour (they opened for another famous prog band called The Strawbs), I saw Yes "Close to the Edge" tour, various other prog band during the 1970's, and I played percussion in Classical Orchestra for 6 years during my school days, and along the way learn to play 8 different instruments, including - guitars, keyboards, bass, alto flute, harmonica, tablas, six-string banjo, and drum set. You can find me on KZbin playing all those instruments. So, what do I know about prog-rock?

Yo tuve el privilegio de verlos en persona en concierto en los 70’s en el Sports Arena en San Diego California y lo mejor de todo con los integrantes originales estaba como a 5 metros de mi David Byron (RIP) fue toda una experiencia verlos tocaron la clásica de ellos “July Morning” David Byron es el que le daba ese toque clásico a la banda muere el y ya nunca volvió hacer lo mismo 😮

I think, this tune didn't represent UH style. Beautiful❣🥰 In Poland at that time radio presented One Day, also nice song if you remove distorted guitar. Hey, you're good! I used to play drums, guitars, synthesizer and I used to sing .... my days come to an end....😉

This album was too bloated and not very good. They played Savannah on this tour. A couple of us were driving to the beach and decided to pull under one the bridge. We wanted to smoke and when we pulled under the bridge we found one of the band and a local girl stuck in the mud. We helped them pull out. Amazing
