ugh, my pig had UTI 2 months ago:/ I knew it was UTI, but my vet said he was`nt sure, so he did`nt give me medicine to treat it. After 2 days he finally gave me medicine. It was horrible to hear her squik and being in pain while peeing:(

This is a great video! I also noticed that Wriggles (one of my female guinea pigs) was drinking more when she had her UTI. Poor Wriggles gets chronic UTI despite my 5 other pigs being healthy. My wonderful vet put her on Pentosan injections which has an off-label use in guinea pigs of reducing bladder inflammation and pain. It's kept most UTIs away from Wriggles with no side effects. FYI, when Stretch had an infection in her lymph node our vet gave her Enrotril after Bactrim didn't work. I'm not sure if it's sold in the UK under another name but, other than the fact that it tasted really bad we didn't have any issues using that. So it might be useful to be aware of just in case you find an infection doesn't respond to your regular one.

Hi! Thankyou so much for this video! My piggie has just had some problems squeeking whilst urinating, we saw a vet ASAP, and they gave us baytril and metacam and also some pro biotic to help boost him up a little. He's currently just finished his corse of medication and is not crying when peeing currently:) this video is great for piggie owners! Thankyou for putting this out there I'm glad I know it was the correct medication even though I did re search I don't always trust it! 😊😊

I think my all 3 of my ginypigs have a urinary tract infections and I can't go to a vet so what should I do? I do not see blood in there pe nown there in there parts there is white goop and it is crusty

my world mine had that once, it was due to too much calcium in the diet. If you research the amounts of calcium in vegetables and find a good mix (some high some low), they should be fine.

Could I feed a guinea pig hay my grandparents farmed, the hay is weed free. We feed it to some of our rabbits and, they did just fine, and is feeding it to my sister's bucket calf and to our horse, they doing just fine.

I rushed my pig to the emergency vet last night, he's got all the symptoms of a UTI, taking him to another vet today to get tests done. I feel so bad for him he was in a lot of pain last night, and he's peeing a lot of blood :(

Daisy Clarke first do all the research. Guides pigs need Hay, a had feeder, water bottle, water, food, food bowl or dish, and a hide/igloo. If should buy them in pairs and make sure you have a big enough cage for them to run freely

One of my guinea pig is having pains and crying when she is peeing and straining to pee and I think it’s most likely a UTI and I’m going to have to take her to the vet but they don’t open till Monday and I hate to see her in pain until Monday I’m scared for her 😭

Hi Abbi - I'm sorry to hear your guinea pig is in pain. It might help in the meantime to encourage her to take in more water, give some extra cucumber for example. I hope the vet visit goes okay, you will most likely be given antibiotics (baytril or bactrim or septrim) and perhaps an anti-inflammatory to treat a UTI, unless they want to look into the possibility of bladder stones (e.g. if they feel something when checking her over). I have a video on administering medication into their mouths with a syringe which might come in useful. Healing wishes for your pig

I am really scared. Woke up to blood all over the cage today. I grabbed both my piggies (Annie) (Leah) and checked the both for cuts or anything like that. I checked annie first and the looked fine so I checked leah next. I immediately saw the blood was hers and it was coming out of her privates. I'm not sure if she is just on her cycle. I've had 2 female piggies for the last 7 years, absolutely no health problems at all, after they both passed away a year apart at 6 and 7 years decided to get 2 new piggies, 2 males this time, I've only had them 4 weeks now and one has a urine infection! just went to the vet yesterdays with him, he has baytrill and and a pain killer, hopefully this sports him out, I've decided to change to fleece bedding from now on in the hopes this eliminates any further uti,s .

My guinea pig recently had UTI and basically all vets are closed because of the current virus. My father and I are trying our best to keep our guinea pig healthy and he recommended feeding grass since it's really good for healing and has a lot of things that can kill bacteria, etc. My guinea pig already eats our grass, so that's pretty good, but I'm still worried. Is there anything I should do? I think our vet will open back up April 3rd, but if not, that's a big problem.

I hope your piggies is okay. Best things for UTIs are an antibiotic, lots of water and healthy veggies. Vets may be open for emergencies, you could take him in that way if he seems to get worse.

I know this is random but I have a question. I am a kid and my mom is going to get me guinea pigs for my sister and I, the problem is she(my mom) is afraid of guinea pigs. We( my sister and I ) promised her that we would take care of the future guinea pigs by our selves. My mother is a clean person I don't know if she will be able to stand the scent. More importantly if the bedding gets out of the cage ( which I think it probably will) she will not be happy. So I saw people use fleece (little adventures) and I looked it up on amazon and most of the fleece that fits our future cage is too pricey. I thought about making my own, but I am a kid and I definitely a not able to acquire a sewing machine ( I don't know how to use it either) I am a MEDIOCRE sewer ( yep I pretty much suck) so I'm wondering whether I could hand sew a fleece bedding thing. DISCLAIMER I think the way of phrasing this paragraph makes it sound like my mom is a cruel parent(maybe exagerating a little) person but I promise you she is a great person and is willing to try to care and love the guinea pigs. :)

Alexa Avelar guinia is fine being left as long as there is enough water-food and is caged. I work in urgent care, 12 hour shifts 3 days a week and my guinia is fine 😁

I use klin dried pine bedding and when guinea pigs pee it sometimes appears dark brownish. Yesterday I noticed it looked darker then usual and kind of reddish, I kept and eye on my 2 guinea pigs and they seem to act normal but there is still some darkish pee going on. Idk if the bedding is just darker then usual or if one of them might have an infection. Any ideas on how to figure out? My girls are really sweet but hate being picked up. They don't mind if I pet them on the nose or the back a little but they run when I try to pick them up which makes it hard to inspect them. also I have a lot of trouble finding an exotic vet or a vet with experience where I live so its hard to find one for anything more then a checkup.

Your guinea pig needs to see the vets, probably for antibiotics. As owners, our piggies only have us to be responsible and provide healthcare. The vet visit will not be expensive for this (check up and prescription). Hoping you can get her seen ❤️🙏

I've experienced that with my pigs. And what's cured her get rid of the calcium built up? Sludge was high vitamin C. Pure vitamin C every 2 days, about 2 mg and lots of antibiotics. Within 1 week. After an X-ray, it had remove both the calcium You have to give them pure vitamin C.
