As a Montrealer who’s never experienced any of the Habs cup runs, it’s almost impossible to describe what that summer felt like, other than pure excitement. The whole city felt like it came alive, the atmosphere was electric. Even if they didn’t win, this run was the craziest thing I had ever experienced in my life. It made the 2021-2022 season worth it

I've said it before, I'll say it again; The 2021 playoff Habs played the greatest spoiler. Leafs, Jets, and Knights. All teams slated for greatness, falling to a team that just said "NO." There was much hype. This was a good time. So was this video!!

As a Habs fan who never got to see that 1993 run this was the greatest moment in my life as a sports fan. The finals was heartbreaking yes, but I wouldn't trade that run and the memories it brought for anything short of a Cup. As a Lightning fan I was really disappointed in seeing Montreal get to the final because I knew Tampa would destroy them, and that was peak Lightning, and I really wanted to see them beat a good team. For example, this year's Lightning team would have still easily mopped the floor with the Canadians, but last years Lightning team is taking out the Avs. I wish we could have flipped the years so that great Lightning team would have had a true challenge int he final. In any case the 2nd best team in 2021 was clearly the Islanders. I think Montreal would probably be down at like 4 or 5.

@ThompsonExpress 2 жыл бұрын
I remember Game 1 vs VGK. I was listenning the local radio in MTL talking about the game. People were crying that the dream is dead. People who saw the 93' cup said we blew it and we should pack our thing and move on. I called the radio show. I say to 2 legends of MTL Hockey hosting the show: "Its game 1. Its Vegas. Its a wake up call to not sleep on the Jets sweep. Chill out guys, we gonna win this. Its only 1 game, there 6 remaining. We got this." They agree with me, but keep an understandable skeptism to my claim. During the St-Jean-Batiste, I'm at my mom's house, our patio is packed with the family. Mom, Step-dad, step-sis, her husband, their 3 kids, my sis, her boyfriend (who went from knowing nothing of hockey to become a die-hard Habs fan wearing a Subban jersey for the occasion. What a lad), and me. It felt like a dream. And that OT, we were so fucking happy. It felt like we won the goddamn cup. The eldest of my step-sis child didn't understood nothing of what was going on. She was 12 and wasn't a hockey fan, i told her she witness history. I'm sure she'll get it in a couple of years. When an American joke saying that we like hockey, their jokes is an understatement: Montreal (and the Province as a whole) fucking love hockey. The whole province celebrated their national day with a MTL win and becoming "The King of the North". Canada bowed down to the team who nobody believed in. People wore the habs jersey with pride. And we fucking deserved it. For me, it was the undeniable proof that Quebec City deserve its own Hockey team once more. We will love them like our child. Tattoed on all of our heart next to Celine Dion and the MTL logo. When we tanked for this season, my heart sanked. "What the fuck happen?" I said. We lost everything and everyone. All our playoff superstars were traded, injured or soon to retire. The dream was dead. It felt like a long loss memory. It doesn't even felt real anymore. Did Quebec collectively hallucinated the 2021 playoffs? It sure felt like it. But now we know it happen, this vid is proof of it. I'm 23, turning 24 in two weeks. I'll see the habs win the cup. They will lift the cup before i die. I'll see it. I will see it.

As a habs fan, this was a welcome surprise! You also hit the nail on the head about the team. That miracle run took everything out of the team and was revealed to be a fluke. I’m sad this season went as it did but I’m excited that Bergevin is finally gone and that the team is going in an exciting new direction. Gorton, Hughes, and St. Louis seem like the right men for the job and have done great so far in my opinion. Here’s to hoping the rebuild goes well and they make the correct choice at first overall!

Honestly, the Habs should be proud. A fluke would mean they got extremely lucky. They had their lucky breaks, sure. But the Habs played their hearts out, and it showed. They should rest easy knowing that they also won an award rarer than the Stanley Cup: The _Western_ Conference's Clarence S. Campbell Bowl. Short of some other world-shattering event, no Eastern Conference team will ever win that award again.

Honestly, the Habs are in a pretty good spot, all things considered. They had a deep playoff run, which can help build experience, and a complete collapse that allows them to pick first overall. The change of head coach helped to give them some confidence to end the season. I feel pretty cautiously optimistic about the Canadiens. The only problem is that they play in a really tough Atlantic.

Excellent soundtrack. Rebirth will be wild. Montreal’s run was something else. They were super streaky all season, they started the season 8-3-1 and proved to be just consistent enough. Tampa was far and away the best team in those playoffs. We all know why that is, Vegas was proof that It is not something you want to try and replicate. Absolute heartbreak for Weber. He spent his prime in the shadow of Lidstrom and Chara. Nashville was on the cusp of greatness and needed one more piece. Their 2003 2nd Round 40th(42?) selection and current Captain was the price for that piece. The Preds move on to the Finals. Tree I’m sure you’re fond of that one. 5 years later Weber finally gets to go to his first Final. The team came up short, Weber gave it everything. Shea Weber is one of the best players to never win a major award. 7 times he played in All Star Game 4 Hardest Shot wins 2 Time First Team All Star 2 Time Second Team All Star 1 Time Messier Leadership award That’s it, for a guy who FOR YEARS was widely considered the 3rd best Defenceman in the league.

TL/DR: I was on a trip with my fiance and her family during the Montreal/Vegas series, and it's pretty much why I say I'm a Canadiens fan now. I'm from Pennsylvania and never really experienced hockey outside of the Penguins' Cup runs in the last 15 years. I started paying more attention, and when the playoffs began, I started to see how special the Canadiens' season truly was. On a trip with my fiance and her family to the Outer Banks, the house we stayed in had TVs in the rooms; I got to see my first playoff hockey on that trip, off and on, usually later at night. The trip played out over the Montreal v. Vegas series. It was as if the universe set up the circumstances for multiple magical things to play out at exactly the same time. That trip, and the miracle run the Habs went on, are forever etched into me. I'm pretty sure it's why I call myself a Canadiens fan now, because every time I talk about them, I feel like I'm talking about my future wife.

They may have been 'lightning in a bottle' and a blue moon team but they were an absolute joy to watch, a perfect underdog, and made this Avs fan feel a LOT better after they annihilated the Golden Knights.

Just look at the 2010 Flyers. Same scenario. Bottom 10 team, a coaching change and an electric shootout win to make the playoffs gave them all the momentum. Swept the devils, 3-0 comeback series win, stunning the habs in 5 games, only to fall flat in the finals thanks to Leightons 5 hole.

I’m not a Habs fan but I was crushed when they were defeated in the finals. I always loved Carey Price and Shea Weber but seeing them beaten was heartbreaking. Only for all the more heartbreak surrounding them afterword just made it all the more worse. It was a hell of a run seeing them being the underdogs the whole season. It made me want to cheer them on.

That summer was pure insanity. It still gives me chills watching montages of the run. I travelled to Quebec a couple of times during the 21-22 season. Every game I watched was a blowout, but I’m looking forward to better days. A great rebuild is upon us, and I’m here for it. An elite duo with Caulfield and Suzuki. Hopefully Shane Wright in the draft. Sad to see Price go, but it’s about that time. Wow, I’m excited for the next 5 years.

Yes, the Canadiens did crater early on, but at least they gained some hope after hiring Martin St. Louis as their interim head coach. There was a stretch where they won 7 of 8 games (before they went to playing the NHL equivalent of Tank Bowl).

As a habs fan: the future looks brighter than ever. The horrible season locked us a 1st overall round pick. I’m stocked for the future and in 5-6 years time we’ll be cup contenders. I am so grateful for that fluke run in 2021. That run brought my love of hockey back. I can’t describe what that summer was in Montreal and I’ll cherish the memories until my death.

This video in a way was like a dagger in my heart. 🗡❤😭 I appreciate you not going full s***poster and actually giving the team credit to an extent though. Also, this draft combined with Price's career possibly coming to an end soon feels a lot like when the Rangers got to draft LaFreniere (regardless of how he's panning out) while Lundqvist's career was over. A soul for a soul...

it was also nice to see Lehkonen win a cup elsewhere AND score both the 3rd round and cup winning goals while doing so, It was like watching Devante Smith-Pelly and Lars Eller win a cup in Washington while also happening to be the ones to score both the tying and winning goal in the cup deciding game.

Also, I still haven't forgiven Kucherov for what he said about Habs fans. Lol Even if we're very entitled, he still had no right to talk s*** about us like that. We have a rich history plus hockey is one of Canada's biggest prides, so we had the right to celebrate the Game 4 win the way we did, as opposed to the Lightning who only won 8 times less the cups than we did and don't even have winters. To paraphraise Richard Sherman, "DON'T YOU EVER TALK ABOUT US LIKE THAT!!!" Lol

Really heartfelt video from Urinating tree. If the better team always won no one would watch sports, and the Habs were never the better team in any series in 2021. The video very good on of may favourites in a long time and yes I'm biased. It focused mostly on the strictly sport related elements of the playoff run but there were some other outside cultural influences that made the run feel if more significant and impactful to fans than the video suggest. Firstly, Carey Price is Aboriginal and the playoffs were happening simultaneously as when a series of unmarked graves of Aboriginal children were being discovered. These children were kidnapped by the Canadian Government and forced to attend Residential schools, whose purpose was to 'kill the Indian in the child', abuse was widespread and often the Indian child ended up killed. It felt as Price was channeling this historic pain and leading this playoff charge to honour these children who died too young because they were taken from their families by our Government. Secondly the win net of the Golden Knights Has series was awarded the Clarence Cambell Cup. For those who are unaware Clarence Cambell was the NHL Commissioner who suspended Maurice Richard and then by attending a Canadiens' game after the suspension was announced and inciting the Richard riots, and thus is a villainous figure in Montreal history. Many Habs fans thought the punishment was too harsh and was due to bias against French Canadians by NHL. Cambell and the Canadien's become stand-ins for English Canada and French Canada respectively. The Habs beat the Knights on June 24th 2021. June 24th is St. Jean Baptiste Day, the national holiday of the Quebecois people. Thus the Habs were able to enact revenge on Cambell by winning his cup on Quebec's National Holiday. Thanks for great content Tree, I definitely see why you would choose not to include this in your video based on how long my comment has become

My ridiculously calm, collected and stoic friend said to me he wanted so badly to joyously riot on Rue Ste-Catherine. Didn't happen but still, hell of a run. So many iconic moments, but that hit on Evans is still fresh. I remember how Weber looked like he was actually going to kill someone in the aftermath. The gamble ultimately failed but man, it was a fun ride.

As a Sharks fan, it was very exciting seeing an underdog like the Habs play spoiler to the Leafs, Jets, and Knights (the latter being especially sweet), but sadly all good things must come to an end. However, the future is bright. Many young players stepping up and the #1 overall pick to play with. Good luck with the rebuild Montreal
