I have this issue as well. What I have found is that sitting on the toilet for urination allows for more complete voiding as well as waiting a bit longer before getting up. Look if it works for you, that's what matters. That said, the nausea which is typically a major side effect of a diabetic drug like this, ultimately achieves weight loss (which may have been the contributing factor in your dribble improvement?) occurs not only from fat but also muscle loss. That's maybe not such an issue when you're in your 30's or 40's but after that, it seems maintaining, let alone building muscle becomes much more challenging. Other health complications so many of us encounter as we age, also make the kinds of exercises that maintain and build muscle, harder to do. So I'd want to me mindful of that potential downside.

Hey thanks for this! After my hernia, I've had off and on issues with dribble, and never stopped to think the reason it was so erratic might be because I'm slackin' on my pelvic exercise. It's been so erratic, but now that I understand where it's coming from, and that that's the same muscle area that's relaxing when it happens, I think I address it better.
@groeswenphil9 ай бұрын
I think I might just have cracked this problem. After you've finished, place a piece of tissue over the end. Then......you know that muscle inside you? The one you pull back on if you want to stop peeing? Pull back on that three times, then cough (although I don't actually know whether that actually helps). It certainly improves the situation for me.

There are alternatives like obstructing the arteries supplying blood to the prostate by inserting some kind of innert polymers spheres (it is a temporary treatment that lasts about 3 years as far as I know, and has to be repeated I think). My father has BPH and he lost the opportunity to operate. Now his prostate is too big and hard to operate, also his health is too fragile; the best thing is to find a good doctor and operate as soon as possible so you avoid a harder/troublesome surgery.

It's just social anxiety for some. Me. Until I learned to Zen out. I've always had "stage fright" (unable to release at a urinal with company), living life with one foot on the gas and the other on the brake. Tensed up for the fight that would realistically never break out. That problem got me to kind of meditate, day dream, bliss out, when I was at the urinal. Relax. Some success, but more importantly, hanging around "after" and relaxing even more, would result in the second act. The dribble that otherwise would have ended up in my pants. Try it! Relax! Take ten extra seconds to reset the area and clear the pipes...

Hey Dr. M, great video, I'd love to add a wrinkle. I'm in my late 40s, and I've always had a slightly enlarged prostate. I figured out the milking thing years ago, it works great, but there is something else. I think most people, including myself, are in too much of a rush to urinate and be done with it. When I'm finished, if I close my eyes, and I take a couple of deep breaths and relax, I can always get more urine to come out with little effort. In fact, sometimes a lot of urine comes out. Take your time people, make sure you're actually finishing before you run off to the next thing. I'm sure it's better for our health to get all of that urine out, and who knows, perhaps the rushed way in which people urinate plays a role in some of our health issues.

I've always had post-void dribbling as long as I remember. I doubt I had an enlarged prostate as a kid, and it has happened even during those periods when I've exercised a lot and surely had strong core muscles. I've thought it's just because after using your muscles to squeeze out the last drops of urine from within the urethra inside your body, a few drops still remain inside the penis because there are no muscles around it to squeeze. And that's why men squeeze or shake the penis to force out the last drops of urine from inside the penis. My trick to get the few drops left inside me out is to walk a few steps in place or squat a little. That movement forces out the pee, which I catch on a piece of toilet paper. Then it won't happen when I walk away from the toilet.

I notice this really lessens when I do those pelvic floor muscle exercises mentioned here. I get on the "good girl/bad girl" machine and do squeezes. Issue was largely abated. I also let the muscles relax after the initial urination and the rest comes out.
@KevinAmatt9 ай бұрын
I went through a period of having this issue. I thought I must smell of urine. But since becoming a strict carnivore the problem has disappeared. Maybe it’s because of the Zinc in red meat and organs. Apparently a healthy prostate has a lot of zinc in it. But an inflammation prostate has lower zinc levels. So does deficiency zinc cause inflammation of the prostate. Or does the inflammation prostate cause the deficiency of zinc.

I have this issue on and off and I am 42. I have had my prostate checked out and I am good there. I think I have noticed a pattern in my particular situation, but not sure. I am starting to believe my issue is related to working out at the gym. I put in 2 hours at the gym 5 days a week and each day I do an ab workout. When I do the ab exercises, I concentrate very hard on the contraction and quality of the exercise to get the most out of it. It seems like when I am on a good gym routine, this issue becomes more frequent. I sometimes have to take breaks due to injury, sickness, vacation, etc.. When my gym routine falls behind, I have noticed the problem is not as bad. Am I on to something Dr. Malik??

I have heard that heavy weight training (especially squats and related heavy lifts) can weaken the pelvic floor muscles. I also lift weights frequently and noticed my symptoms first began after I had increased the intensity and frequency of lifting weights... Was lifting daily and very heavy. It's when it all started for me
@HammerK999 ай бұрын
You could be onto something. Maybe the frequent ab exercises increases abdominal/perineum/peritoneal tonicity adversely affecting one’s ability to completely relax to void urine completely from the bladder.

Thankfully I don't have this problem, but I've always been OCD about bathroom stuff like pee and poop, so I've been doing the pelvic floor exercises and stroking down the shaft to get every last drop out ever since I was a teen. Had no clue I was even doing an exercise that targeted my pelvic until years ago. I definitely find I have a stronger control now since I'm 39.

Does the position you take when urinating help? for example, ordinary sitting position instead of standing or a seated squatting position.
@ricofico9 ай бұрын
The size of the toilet seat matters too. To prevent penis constriction a bigger seat should be used. For me seating or standing doesn’t matter. But smaller seats made it worse, once you stand up. 😢

A Slight forward bend in the knees helps. walking 4+5 steps away then then to the receptical and 'peeing' again. Anal plugs helps with prostate issues, including hyper activity bladder.

For me, I was originally prescribed Tamsulosin from a urologist that insisted my prostate was a problem even though my flow was strong. After 3 days, I was unable to get even a drop out. He said to stop using it. Next, it was Flomax. even though I protested my prostate was not a problem. After a month or so, when my system decided to urinate, it just did so, within seconds. Totally unable to stop the flow. Then I learned on my own about sphincter muscles. Put 2 and 2 together: not only did the flomax open up the bladder, but also the sphincter muscles as well. I quit flomax. Today, my sphincter muscles deal with a new problem. Dribble, sometimes. Mostly when I first wake up. I figure as the urine volume in the bladder nears the bottom, the residue has less pressure from the bladder to expel, perhaps the bladder thinks it is about through and starts closing the upper sphincter muscle, and the last half ounce just barely squeezes out - it dribbles out. When I am active and about, things work much better.

A competent urologist is incredibly hard to find. Expect to try out 3 before you find--but do find one and make sure of what's going on.

The three stages of old age: first you forget names, second, you forget to zip up, and third, you forget to zip down.
I had this for about a year. Coincided with when I was diagnosed with diabetes and later weird pain in my lower abdomen. Thought I had pancreatitis or something, but doctor said no, got me to reduce my glucose and the dribble went away along with other diabetes symptoms and abdominal pain. Never figured out what it was. I think I had swelling somewhere internally that probably made this happen, but I'll never know. I had no idea it was more common that I assumed.
@Terran9949 ай бұрын
I mean it's pretty simple. Your bladder basically has a faucet like a garden hose connects to, and of course the urthea is a hose. When you turn a faucet on, water is pushed through the hose and comes out. When you close the faucet, water pressure is cut off so water stops coming out, but that doesn't mean water that was in the hose just disappears

I’ve had this issue since childhood. Even caused me problems with my mom, during laundry day. I stopped using white underwear because of it. I always knew that because of this issue I would have prostate issues when older. Now I’m 51 taking prostate medication due to an enlarged prostate. The way I found this out was through a mri for something else.

Im a kidney transplant patient and ive had this for quite some time. When i was on dialysis i lost a lot of muscle and have nerve damage essentially from head to toe from the high levels of creatine. After transplant, the donor kidney ureter was too narrow and i developed hydronephrosis. The transplant and my native ureters were swapped and thats when i developed this "void dribble" shes probly a rough old plumbing job down there so i gotta wriggle and dance to get the juice flowing so to speak.

I run every day and in good shape to be over 65. I started riding a bicycle for just 1 mile every day. Post dribble went away. I look at it as an external prostate massage. May not work for everyone but a must try

I deal with the dribble when I urinate by spreading my legs as far apart as I can. When using a public restroom this means using a stall. Solved most of my urination problems and eliminated the dribble.

We have a proverb in Turkish which may be loosely translated to English as: Whatever you do, last drop is always with your underpants. I suppose one may reduce the amount of after-dribble, but never totally get rid of it..

Those of us who've 'had a prostatectomy have also lost use of the muscle normally used to shut off the urethra. We have been taught to use another muscle which works quite well except under stess eg laughter. So we also have to wear man pads to soak up these drips. It works.

I watched the old video of yours about this ages ago and saw you talk about "ureathral milking" and it has worked great, if I do it I don't leak anything.
@kdr60659 ай бұрын
I pinch the the lower part of the head quickly as I’m finishing up. Kinda acts like a pump, takes out pretty much all of it. Learn to relax the muscles around that area too, it helps. Apply milking technique too if needed.

10 years of doing this. Prostate is normal. Dr wanted to stick a camera up my urethra. I drew the line there. But I still don't know the cause or how to fix it. I naturally figured out the milking but it only goes so far. If I flex my abdomen as I'm finishing urination or during ejaculation it seems to void my urethra better, but after 10 years it's getting old.

Submit to the Cystoscopy; that's the best way for a Urologist to examine the urethra, the prostatic uptake, the bladder sphincter and the bladder itself..

Ever since I started sitting to pee I basically eliminated leakage. It’s also more comfortable and my muscles are relaxed so that may have something to do with it.
