Questo aereo è un gioiello, grazie alla paternità dell'ingegnere Gabrielli. Lo spartan 27 di Leonardo è il successore del G 222

A view from the recliner. These Spartans should be working along with the Herc's. They would save a lot of fuel and they can land and take off from many more air strips. In humanitarian emergency this can make a big difference.

I didn't know they flew out of Elizabeth City I thought they only flew out of Air Station Sacremento

Elizabeth city is where the main air station is. Has both the A and C schools so has all airframes for training and SAR.

Elizabeth City is where the Conversion process from Airforce to Coast Guard happens. As all C-27s were acquired from the Airforce. As such, the unit that converts them has a single C-27 so they always have an airframe to look at.

Think there are a bunch of these aircraft in long term storage out in the desert near Tuscon, AZ. If still there (& refurbished) think would make an ideal sort of aircraft to help ferry materials in Ukraine. Think would make a much needed addition to their air force once hostilities crease and put to good use.
@GOPGOP-bk2yy2 жыл бұрын
Was originally for the US Army to use as a intra-theater transport but the wusses in the Air Force cried & said that's our mission & the Army was forced to turn the program over to the Air Force who then promptly cancelled the project. The aircraft on hand were then turned over to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Think they were for the Afghan Air Force but were too expensive, so the Coast Guard and SOCOM grabbed them

Leave to the politicians as they wanted to dump money into developing a different aircraft.

@@cgmason7568 No the Afghan Air Force acquired older ex Italian air force refurbished G-222 or C-27A model. The US government were original were acquiring up to 150 C-27j for the US Army. Then it became a joint US army/ Airforce program. However only 21 were acquired. All went to the US airforce . Then eventually 14 were transferred to the US Coast Guard and 7 to the US Army.

Is this a cargo plane like the C130 in small version???
@fargneta2 жыл бұрын
It is the evolution of the G222, a cargo plane built by the Italian company Alenia. Basically a C130 in reduced scale, but with a very high maneuverability, and exceptional VSTOL (Very Short Take Off and Landing) capabilities.

I guess it's better than flying the Falcon, but I would rather have C130's because of the range, endurance and four engines.

Updated version of the Aeritalia/Fiat G222, developed in cooperation with Lockheed and gaining a lot of commonality in the process. In effect, a twin Herk.
