We even got two drug busts on our way home from the construction yard in MS to homeport in Alameda, CA. A little advice, weigh all your options before you choose what rate (job specialty) you want. Think what kind and how long a career you want in the CG. Think what career fields interest you and how you can use that when you eventually leave the service, whether it's after 4 years or 24 years. There's an old saying, choose your rate, choose your fate.

My husband and I are pleasure boaters in the west coast waters of the State of Washington and the Puget Sound. The Sound has numerous container ships, US Navy ships, Washington State Ferries and numerous pleasure boats. The amazing work of the Coast Guard is so important. Rescuing vessels in trouble as well as navigation issues. I was disappointed the last time there was a government shutdown the Coast Guard was overlooked because it isn’t in the Department of Defense. Protect the Seas and all who travel upon it.
