“Republicans have convinced the white House, theoretically, to send, more advanced weapons to Ukraine.”
ATACMS are amongst the weapons which the US could send to Ukraine if the House of Representatives vote for the $60 billion aid deal, says, Caitlin Doornbos.

“How soon will the funds be released to Ukraine”??? Virtually no money is being handed over, and Times journalists should know that. The bulk of the aid is in providing weaponry (usually the old stuff about to be retired anyway) from the existing US stockpile, and the money will be spent by the US Department of Defense on replacing it. The money will go straight to Lockheed, Raytheon and other American defence contractors. The small proportion going outside the USA will go mainly on transport costs. Do try and keep up at the back.

@@gustialdi584 Different wars with different needs. The Russians Achillies heal in Crimea is logistical support. FYI, the USA unlike Russia currently militarily hammered all its foes at lightning speed. The first gulf war, Afghanistan and Iraq again were all concluded withing a three month span of time. Russia only possesses 18% of Ukraine currently and has been at it for over three years. I'm well aware of the fact that there's the long-term occupational phase of these champagnes and America struggled here. Conquest the USA excels verses occupation, where the USA struggled. Conquest involves military capability. Contrasted with the occupational phase where the USA could only throw money at the problem and wasn't using the full potential of its military. Because the USA was trying to win the hearts and minds of the people. Put another way, if the USA really wanted to be very brutal, it could have easily subdued resistance in Iraq and Afghanistan. Instead, the USA tried to nation build and the general population just wasn't interested enough. Realizing that the process was doomed to failure the USA cut its losses and left. Which is too bad for Iraq and Afghanistan. For those nations that cooperated with America after American military involvement are all now nations that experience higher standards of living for their citizens i.e. Germany, Japan and S Korea.

No it's not. We have two nations within one state, at war with each other, in a fight to the death. Both sides have almost equal numbers in the House of Reps. Both sides have massive amounts of funding and supporters. And both have the advantage of a rule set that gives automatic credit to the opposition, through the ability to delay proceedings if desired. Oh yeah, FWIW, the opposition to this also controls the House and the Speaker's chair by one vote. And over here, our House Speaker is like your Government Leader. So not in any way neutral or powerless. Technically, the Majority Leader sets the agenda, but the Speaker has such power that he can effectively control any leadership decision that interests him. How is this in any way difficult to understand or obscure info? It's been widely publicized in your country.

ATACMS good, but what Ukraine really needs RIGHT NOW is air defense. And unfortunately, as far as I am aware, we don't really have missiles with enough range to take out russian planes that are using their wing-modified glide bombs (which I believe have a 75-mile range, and are currently being used against Kharkiv). I don't know what the answer is for that... Not sure when the F-16s arrive they are going to make as much of a difference because the missiles they carry don't have the range that the missiles russian planes carry. In terms of intercepting russian bombers, Gripens would be better if they are armed with the long-range Meteor missiles (and a somewhat smaller radar cross section than the F-16s), but it would still be tough sledding due to the russian air defense.

The real problem here is that these politicians don't seem to understand that this is not just a case of sending a few cans of beans to help with the "quality of life" for the Ukrainian soldiers. These delays have cost the lives of dozens of extra forces personnel every day. They are being bombed, shelled, having missiles fired at them, tanks firing at them all with very little to defend themselves with. They have no aircraft to speak of, no long range missiles left and very little if any air defence systems left.

We support Ukraine for the most part. After the second world war it made sense for the US to carried 80 percent of the cost to defend Europe because of all devastated economies there. Now your economies are strong you have universal health, a better education system, better public transportation than US and you can't even spend 2 percent for you own defense. That being said I still support Ukraine aid and think should give everything short of wmd.

So how do they determine the value of what they are sending if it's from old stockpiles? They could determine that something useful is of no financial value and hand vast quantities to Ukraine.. Atacms for $50 each...
@RudolphoAqui

Sadly I believe the $ value attached is at replacement cost, ergo by now aid should probably be doubled.

Thank you for inviting this knowledgeable guest and discussing this important topic in supporting Ukraine. It’s sad and annoying that far left professional protesters on weekly basis rally for support of Palestine in Melbourne, Australia and the subject of world’s biggest war at the moment gets minor attention. I wish poor Gazans that had nothing to do with massacres of Jews in October last year safety and all the help they can get.

This reporter obviously has never been in the military. There are no game changers. Anybody that thinks F-16s or ATACMs missiles will be a game changer are expecting them to be something that they are not and will be disappointed. Everything is a part in a machine. They are just parts. If you are missing parts the machine will not run. The Russians have found out that logistics is part of that machine. They didn't have logistics and their machine didn't work. Whether they have replaced that part I do not know. Then a country tries to find a weakness in that machine. Ukraine found logistics to be a weakness in the Russian machine so they went after it. Now they feel that finances are so they are going after Russian oil refineries. Long range missiles will allow them to go after another weakness. A Ukrainian weakness is no ammunition or air force and Russia is going after both. This bill addresses the ammunition problem and Europe is addressing the no air force problem.

Problem is, the shelf was literally empty. ATACMS hasn't been manufactured in a decade. Ukraine already got the ATACMS we had left. The replacement for ATACMS is in full production. No reason why we can't send Ukraine those missiles.

I gather it's a european problem,considering g that he us is the only country to invoke article 5, nato an all European allies got stuck in a years war in afghanistan. How many billions were spent/ thrown away in afghanistan? I u destined,this war is in Europe and if it cannot be either contained or won, is going to be a us problem as well. Some dumbo, or perhaps it was us Europeans getting involved in Afghanistan for 20 years.
