I live in upstate New York on Lake Ontario and am putting our first boat in the water this summer. We plan on doing alot of fishing way out near Canadian water. Would you advise carrying the same paperwork in case we accidently go into Canadian water and get stopped? We are only 70 or so miles from the border (by water). Who do I contact to find out the rules. USCG or Us Customs? Also, about 2 yrs ago, while on a friends boat salmon fishing, we accidently got a little to close to the Nine Mile nuclear plants in Scriba, NY (less than 1/4 mile)and we were boarded by US Military (I think that was who it was) and they broke our balls for not having New York State enhanced drivers licenses, which supposedly takes the place of of passports but they let us go after giving us the most complete & thuruogh search i can ever saw with only a warning by out being in to close to the plants. Now that i have my own vessel, i want to be 110% legal.

Whow great info and yes I feel the same way I like to be 110% legal I always carry license passport information about the boat so you always have everything you need that's the best thing you could do especially when you're close to other countries

That smaller card is given at bimini for you to come back to Florida?

007mrmrbig the smaller card is given to you by US Customs here in United States and it has a number a br number that you have to call in when you arrive to Florida that way you can report to US Customs without going to the office. Otherwise if you don't have that card you and your crew have to report to US Customs the same day or the next day you have to ask them for non captain arrival

I came back from bimini in July I had the card but not the other guys. When I checked in I gave them their passport numbers. They told me they had to check in and I didn't have to go. Plus they went to Tamiami airport office.

Yes recreational boating outside US is still considered non essential.

@@cesarborges8869 what I heard was that you need to do a covid-19 test within 72 hours and turn it to them and they'll give you an approval to travel there and if you know the weather is so rough sometimes that you cannot plan within 72 hours to do this trip in my opinion will be suicidal to do a trip within 72 hours

U.s. Customs wants you to do a float plan to let them know when you're leaving or coming I just don't do it is not mandatory to do it so when you come back you can let them know but they always going to try to get you to do the floor plan but it's not mandatory I have never filled out a floor plan before
