@@ngunslinger4321 This is a myth. Wisconsin used a sixty-eight-foot lower section of Kentucky's bow to effect repairs. Wisconsin retained it's upper bow structure (including anchor hawsepipes, bullnose, and gun tub) which was then placed over the new, lower bow section. Had the lower portion been longer, then there would have been a gap to fill between the upper bow structure and the rest of the ship. This didn't occur as the section from Kentucky had been measured to the exact frame. The Official website for Battleship Wisconsin lists its length as 887' 3''--same as its sisters (except, apparently, for New Jersey, which is listed as three inches longer).

The USS NEW JERSEY was the only IOWA recalled for service three times: First was for service in Korea, second time for service off of Vietnam, and the final time in the 80’s. MISSOURI was actually not decommissioned in the late 40’s like her sister ships. She was the only Battleship on active duty for service in Korea. She was first decommissioned in 1955, then recommissioned in the 80’s. WISCONSIN was also recommissioned for service in Korea and in the 80’s. IOWA, like her sisters, was recommissioned for Korea and brought out of mothballs in the 80’s.

I served on the U.S.S. John L Hall (FFG-32) from 6/94-8/98 with BM2 Reyes. He previously served aboard the U.S.S Iowa and was part of the crew in 16" turret 1. The explosion was caused by mishandling of the powder bags that propel the 16" shells and a lapse of proper hatch integrity between the magazine and turret. That explosion blew turret 2 up and then collapsed 3 decks down. The lack of correct information in this video dishonors the lives lost. Please verify and validate before putting out incorrect material.

A navy veteran told me a story about the Missouri. He said that a navy tanker with only a single 5 inch gun was in a fog bank and had an unidentified radar contact. After asking the unidentified ship to identify itself twice with no response, the captain's next message was, "Identify yourself or I will blow you out of the water." The response was, "This is the USS Missouri. Fire when ready." Just another typical case of someone letting their battleship mouth overload their rowboat rear.

What's worse for the Willy Dee is a day earlier, in rough seas, they lost a depth charge which detonated, causing the Iowa and others to believe they were under torpedo attack and forced them to take evasive maneuvers. Story has it the Iowa trained it's main batteries onto the USS William D Porter until it was established that these "incidrnts" were truly accidental and not a direct threat to the Commander in Chief.

When the Porter accidentally fired a torpedo at i9wa while FDR was on board. The real funny part was after that, other ships would signal the Porter " Don't shoot! We are Republicans "

Hey Mr. Dark, Last minute update. The motor boat carrying the Japanese delegation to the surrender ceremony took a wrong turn in the middle of Tokyo bay. They ended up on the USS Missouri, so McArthur just decided to have the ceremony there. History can be strange sometimes !

It was changed from the Iowa to the Missouri because then President Truman, who was from Missouri, made that change as Commander in Chief. His prerogative and he exercised it. Everyone did not just change ships at the last minute with all the press and photographers and documents because the US motor boat officer was incompetent.

B.S…. It was always planned to be signed on the Missouri and there was no wrong turn in the bay….. you can miss that ship in any bay. Quit trying to B.S people!

Of course it’s a contrived story, I was hoping that was obvious. :-)

Usually you are spot on but in this case you have made some errors. I could consider revising.

I can only imagine what would be said by the whackos on both sides if something like that torpedo accidentally going off happened today. Conspiracy freaks would, well, freak out.

I like the Dark channels but sometimes I have to wonder who is doing the research. The Japanese didn’t surrender on the Iowa. The surrendered on the USS Missouri. Makes we wonder if ANYTHING they say on this channel is accurate.
