I am a proud Dakota Sioux American Indian. I have lived on Chippewa, Lakota, dakota reservations and have spent some time with the Dine' of Arizona. I fully support Mr. Peltier and his cause. But non Natives can never understand the life of an American Indian and that is a fact. Unless you know how it is to be supressed and forced onto the poorest county's in America, a place were jobs are as scarce as understanding americans are. You are proof of that.

This was their land and it was stolen from them. The very least we can do is acknowledge that. No european would have survived if it had not been for them and how were they thanked? I think it is admirable that they were able to survive after having to leave their entire way of life behind.

On some reservations the casino income is shared in per capita payments to tribal members. However, that is the exception rather than the rule. The economic plight of native people would improve greatly if the US Government would pay the 137 billion dollars in back land payments due them.

But I would say that the less contact people have had with the colonial beast the closer they would be to remaining true to their indigenous culture. I saw a documentary the other day about a tribe of people in the Amazon jungle who had their first outside contact 30 years ago. Can you imagine that in today's world. Looking closely at that culture would probably reveal a lot about us

The road was once called red line road I was told that my ancestors has been buried in the grave yard I also was told I was Cherokee American. The only answer that I see is to leave the reservations. Learn the constitution, learn about our rights and use those rights against the men currently in power. Both political parties are trying to enslave the people, but the constitution does not permit them to do this! The greatest weapon that we have to fight enslavement (tyranny) is the constitution. Knowledge is power and the power belongs to the people. The lawsuits against the US government have finally succeeded. Native Americans unite!

Alcoholism is a big problem on the reservation. The truth is, on most reservations, that 3/4 of the Native Americans on the reservation, are unemployed. They practically drink away to dull the hardships of being unemployed. So the way they deal with the problem, is through prohibition.
