So a missile designed to withstand the extreme heat of hypersonic flight is supposed to be vulnerable to a laser within 1 second? So please explain the heat load distributed over what area of the missile the tracking system is capable to deposit during that 1 second. Even a laser beam suffers from dispersion and attenuation so the intercept has to be pretty close in. That would require the tracking system to be able to slew to the correct position to intercept that maneuvering hypersonic missile within seconds and maintain track for that 1 second at least.

would not be possible to have a "mirror finish" anyway on hypersonic glide re-entry vehicles. They require ultra-high temp surface coatings or tiles similar to how the space shuttles did in order to withstand the intense heat generated by the air friction against the nose at those speeds. Anything that has reflective capability would be burned up within a few seconds and the entire re-entry warhead along with it, so even if some sort of finish of that sort was used to reduce the effectiveness of certain aircraft-based missiles, it wouldn't even be applicable to the most dangerous and effective hypersonic systems which pose the greatest threat to carriers and ground installations. Now they could use the weather to their advantage to a degree, high overcast days will reduce the effectiveness of the LASER, it would take longer to burn through the missile hull and require a closer distance, but the power of the LASER and the speed of the missile would be significant factors.. One thing is for sure, LASERS make extremely good anti-missile and anti-drone systems but will likely only fulfill those roles in the near future due to the massive power requirements. As for infantry, they will be slinging high velocity bullets for decades to come, and artillery is still to this day the biggest casualty producing weapon available. Period. Roving artillery like the Russians employed in Ukraine is probably the next evolution of artillery. Although, I wonder if a LASER system could be powerful enough to self-detonate artillery shells before impact.... that would be a massive advantage!

Only partially. The plasma will block radio waves. But the opacity of the plasma decreases with higher freq electromagnetic waves. By the time you get to the near IR for current laser weapons there's not much reflection. But the missile material is designed to withstand a lot of heat. Material used in rocket engine nozzles are used to cover hypersonic missiles.
