The Lancer. As beautiful as it is deadly. I never tire of their takeoff rolls. I used to jog out to the flight line early mornings to watch the show.

I saw one of these at the last air show before Castle AFB in Merced, CA closed. First, it dwarfs a B-52. Then, just before it revved up to take-off, the announcer said that the ears of small kids should be covered as the noise could do damage to young ears despite the jet being about a half mile away ... and he wasn't kidding, The tarmac, six foot thick concrete (needed to support the weight of huge cargo jets) was vibrating from the noise of the B1's engines. Finally, his comment just before the B1-B did a fly by, he commented that this was a fighter jet on steroids - then as it flew by, it did a couple of barrel roles about 100 feet off the ground. It was absolutely amazing and a really beautiful aircraft to look at ... OH and it's gigantic!

The BONE. What a magnificent piece of technology developed by Rockwell, who also developed the space shuttle. Looking at the rear of the aircraft it's hard to believe it's powered by the same engines as the F-15, two of them...

As a brit I obviously love our jets but one of my favourite of all time is the lancer B1 the 1st time I saw it I was in absolute ore theres nothing like it I really appreciate American design and technology behind all the military aircrafts. F22 f35 with the Rolls Royce vertical take off system the us has used. Its just beauty met with beast mode if that makes sense.

Security and peace through power and the projection of resolve.... Absolutely yes...! Many say the US Military is too big. Most choose to forget that after WW1 and yes after WW2 America slashed its military investment. It was the Korean War I think , that finally convinced Politicians that a substantial conventional Military was needed to face off against Communism . Freedom and democracy is what everyone wants, but sometimes you have to fight to preserve it. Mr Bones is AWESOME...! Cheers.

Introduced after a lot of us in SAC tested it, did RADAR profile tests and loved the hell out of watching this baby fly back in 1978. I think its the best bomber ever built but flying IN IT is a back breaker.

The B-1 fleet is not on war standby as they were originally intended. If you look close at the nose gear there is 4 push buttons that starts the engines. Alerts required a start in 4 minutes, airborne in 15. This ended after the collapse of the USSR and a standdown of nuclear alerts. My understanding is the B-2 fleet are the only nuclear armed bombers.

I'll probably get argument but in my mind, this is one child of the early Cold War birds (XB-70, B-58, FB-111, etc) that has grown up and is ready to take up one leg of our strategic triad. It boggles my mind that these are up for retirement but the BUFF is still being upgraded.

The C-130s used in Antarctica besides skies, have rockets mounted, to assist in liftoff, if needed, which they almost needed to use to get back to McMurdo, from South Pole station, after two attempts, to take off, if the third try had failed, they would had needed to used, scary thought, but they had plowed enough snow after the second runs, to make a successful take off on the third run, such experiences, you never forget…

Mt 11:28-30, 9:23, Rm 10: 8-11; Hb 3:7-8.

These videos indicate the B1 goes thru the pre-flight checklist just before it takes off. That seems ludicrous! That should occur within winutes of the thing landing. Why? Because if an emergency command comes thru there's no time for that pre-flight checklist; rather it's 'lighter up and go' time. There is absolute;y NO time to waste. Am I wrong in my interpretation of what's going on here? I sure hope so. Please tell me. Thanks!

It depends if it is attached to SAC Nuclear Weapons Missions. There are vids of B1 being used in Afghanistan doing actual Close Air Support with Standoff JDAMs (GPS Guided) and 30K' and then coming in close for a "Show of Force" as if it was an A10. Brutality and Overmatch - It will be missed for what it is in comparison to B2Stealth and the B52. B21 is coming soon, but they will never be in the Numbers of the B52s and the F15EX will do the Hypersonic Bomb deployment, far cheaper all around. The Proposal of its airframe resurrected with a Split V Vertical Stabilizers and packed with BVR AA missiles to be directed by F35's seems like an idea, but I am sure that the money is just not there. F15EX might become the Missile Bunnies carrying the munitions for the F35 to direct.

And yet the B1-B is becoming an endangered species while the air force plans to use the B52 for the next 50 years? Flying at 1/2 the speed of the B1-B where the difference in bombload is moot, this makes about as much sense as Jimmy Cartrer who cancelled the original. One thing the air force loves to do is spend $. Maybe they were concerned that if the B1-B had a service life near that of the B52, they wouldn't get to spend billions in development projects alone.
