Thanks for bringing this to our attention! It's good to see our tax dollars put to good use! Spending $409 M to refurbish the airfield is a helluva lot cheaper and faster than building an aircraft carrier, and it's unsinkable! It's a smart move deterrance-wise.

It's a bit of a stretch to call this breaking. Runway Able was cleared in 2003, runway Baker was partially cleared in 2013 and had a C-130 land on it. The effort to clear all four of the northern runways really got into swing last year and has been reported on since then.

Under the ACE program the usa is bringing retired bases back in to operation. They are also activating a base on Peleliu, and have plans for subic bay and Clark field in the Phillipines. There are a bunch more on the list too. I hope you safely leave china before all this boils over in the next few years.

In the process of re-activating it, unless the company that was awarded the contract to refurbish North Airfield finishes ahead of schedule, it wont be fully operational until late 2026.

@@l0I0I0I0 communist royalty only care about themselves and have goodwill and thankfullness toward none. The west never attacked ccp china when it was weak and vulnerable, so why view the west as the enemy now, and fear western aggression? Especially after the west just spent the last 40 years building china up. It would seem like an odd military strategy of conquest to make your enemy stronger before you plan to strike.

The only solution against dictatorships that only respect force is to be very powerful and over-armed and to have lots of powerful allies. Dictatorships only attack the weak and fragile. We were against the Nazis or Imperial Japan, then WW2... Let's not make the same mistakes again.
