Oh, relative to M2, this chart looks absolutely horrific. Government bonds are really just an alternative to holding plain cash. It's a good alternative to buy when interest rates are high (and the price appreciates as interest rates go down) - and it's terrible to hold when interest rates are low - because prices collapse with rising rates.
