The White House has announced that it has signed a non-binding agreement with Taiwan's semiconductor-chips giant TSMC. Washington has agreed to grant $6.6 billion to help the company set-up chip-manufacturing plants in Arizona, with an aim to produce American chips by next year. Earlier, US had imposed several restrictions on China's imports of semiconductors. Despite that, however, Beijing's imports of chip making equipment have increased by 90%. TSMC is Taiwan's insurance policy to get continued US interest in Taiwan to the extent that they would bring their military might in case of a possible Chinese invasion of Taiwan. TSMC had already agreed to set up a plant but the thorn in this agreement was the US demand to train and use US workers something TMSC was not happy to go along with. Not sure if any developments have occurred on this issue. For TSMC, Apple is their biggest customer and so they cannot refuse the US govt offer although they are keen to maintain their grip in process innovation that is tied in with ASML.

To start with all the high paying/ high per capita people may have to forego 90% of their earning - the main polluters. When luxury life style and goods are gone - pollution recedes. Also all the high fliers may be grounded, why should others bear the cost of pollution from planes. Perfumes, new dresses everyday, cars, flights, big houses, fine dining, big machinery, silicon chip manufacturing, data housing storage facilities or mining of any metal . The fire and heat is source of pollution. What is the pollution free power generators - there are NONE. Hydro dams - cement, generators, steel used for dams during manufacture generate pollution. Renewable energy - solar & wind - the R&D is on for 40-50 years without which , we dont get efficient energy - development phase does create a lot of pollutants. manufacture of Silicon wafers, semi-conductor chips require tremendous amount of energy and water, using old tech of fossil fuels. EVs- the production process of batteries is highly toxic. AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT EVERY 10 YEARS. Nothing is free. Internet - 1000s of MW are required to operate the servers spread over the world. All these pseudo climate change people do not know how much energy is require to operate them. The manufacture of electronics, cables and the operational load requirenments are very high. Nuclear energy- probably the lowest polluter when in operation without any accidents. The tech development has taken a 100years and still developing. But the same protesters will block the nuclear plants. People have to give solutions. ITS EASY TO RAISE. CONCERNS. OR PROTESTS OR DEMAND , TO GIVE SOLUTIONS - they are INCOMPETENT. Even building hydro dams are difficult, the same stupid protestors talk about people who are displaced delaying the projects, costs and cause pollution. PEOPLE SHOULD ALLOW DISPLACEMENT SMOOTHLY. Yes but China's not getting the new smaller two nanometer machines and they're trying to get as many machines as they can before the Embargo against the larger nanometer machines take effect the US can do this because the machines have proprietary Parts in the maid only in the US and we hold the patents. Palki got it reversed. China can design chips, but can't manufacture them (at least the most advanced chips at 3nm, 5nm). TSMC had to commit to building a 3rd fab to get the grants. The 2nd fab hasn't started, the 1st one is 2 yrs behind schedule. The economics of the fabs in the US is risky. It costs 40% more to make the chips in the US vs in Taiwan. Who will buy the chips made in the US?

Bonafide follower of sharma, I am😇...becoz you always report things as they are. But on the issue of Zimbabwe though😐 The economic problems and zim dollar depression was primarily due to British lead Sanctions. Exactly in 2008 Mugabe kicked off Illegal British settlers from the Zimbabwean land. Tony Blair punished him with sanctions...and the ZIm D collapsed. Zim has now cemented bilateral relations with China (you wont like that of course!🤣). Worse for the US lead cohorts ! They lost influence of this part of the Africa ie South Africa, Namibia, now Zimbabwe have built a strong economic partnership with Asia and its clear everyone is leaving the West. So from last month US lifted the sanctions,out of the goodness of their hearts!🤣🤣 zimbabwe needed not plead with anyone🤪...and the white still remain chased from Zim! So yes Zig will stand the test of time becoz circumstances are different.
