A wonderful and very important song, with so much power created in 1985, the same year life aid happened, all these amazing artists came together to send a message and start something. Michael Jackson especially did a lot, but unfortunately it was not enough and these guys were alone. When we see what's going on 36 years later, that amazing song still needs to be played in front of every parliament in Western Europe, the US, Australia, Japan, China and Canada.

This came out in March 85, 4 months after Do They Know its Christmas which was released in Dec 84. Bob Geldof the co writer of DTKIC and founder of BandAid/Live Aid was invited to this recording and was disgusted to find the studio swimming in thousands of dollars worth of champagne, caviar and other goodies. Both the UK and USA records made about $20 million each and the combined live concerts made $150 million. All going to relief for Africa.

@Trevon Womack In the 1993 deposition when some idiot was claiming to have written this song and was suing for royalties, Michael went through the parts he wrote and it was the majority of the song. And as the biggest star in the universe in 1985, I can’t imagine any of the others, Lionel included, would have made so many legends willing to take part. It’s not hating on Lionel or anyone else, just the reality of the situation of Michael being the most famous, successful, and having connections to so many of the artists involved going back 15 years or more.
@MissLadyG993 жыл бұрын
Michael Jackson was one of the song writers BUT he is not the one who got everyone together. Harry Belafonte came up with the idea to do something to help with the people in Africa. He approached some guy in the music entertainment business (I forgot his name). That guy in turn got in touch with Quincy Jones and asked Quincy to get a group of celebrity singers together to work on this project. Quincy did that, and Michael Jackson & Lionel Richie wrote the song.
@PlumbPitiful3 жыл бұрын
@@MissLadyG99 ... Yes, Harry Belafonte he is the one that organized this particular project and got everyone together but he was not the first to think of doing it. Bob Geldoff of the Irish band the Boomtown Rat put together the group Band-Aid to record the song Do They Know It's Christmas a couple of months before this after seeing a story on the Ethiopian famine on the BBC. We Are The World was the American response to that effort as were many other similar projects all over the world.
