Authorities in Oklahoma and Kansas are questioning two men in connection with the Oklahoma City bombing. One of the men, 26-year-old Timothy McVeigh has been charged in the case.
Meanwhile, fire fighters and survivors of the blast voiced a mixture of relief and anger at the news that the police have detained two men.
Fire fighters in Oklahoma City reacted to the arrests which came after just 48 hours and a promise by President Bill Clinton to seek revenge on the killers.
VOX POPS:
"Actually I probably shouldn't say that on TV because I'm a strong proponent I guess of instant capital punishment. So, I don't think they should even go to trial."
"It's kind of eerie. I don't know, I mean I haven't really had time to think about it. Seeing this down here brings it all to home - you know what I mean? I don't know. It's kind of scary - scary that somebody could do that to other human beings. That's kind of... that's what scares me."
"When you have rumours going around, rumours are - like with anything - you have to weed it out and find which is which and what's what and that's what the investigative team has done so far. And they're... they're doing real good at finding out if that's the truth or if it's someone here close to town, which I doubt."
"They've got to be hung. That's my opinion. 'Cos (Because) a lot of women and children got killed."
Earlier Friday, one survivor of the bombing talked to APTV from her hospital bed.
Mother-of-two Terri Shaw was rescued from the building by a retired fire fighter, Rowdy Baxter.
Terri says she's glad there's been an arrest.
SOUNDBITE:
"Really, if you want to know the truth - relief that they caught him, basically." (Asked what she would say to the bombers) "Well, a lot of my friends died, I don't know what I would say to them - I probably couldn't say anything .. but I know that a lot of my friends died in that building, not only people that I worked with but people from other agencies and stuff worked in the building so I don't know, just really, really upset."
SUPER CAPTION: Terri Shaw, Bomb Survivor.
Her husband, Bruce, said the ground floor area where Terri was rescued was flooded with water four hours after she was freed.
SOUNDBITE:
"He was given two minutes to get my wife out and he said I'm not leaving without her, I've gone this far and I've promised her that I would stay and he eventually had to wind up pulling her out of the wreckage only to get her out to safety so she could come to the hospital to return later for other people."
"SUPER CAPTION: Bruce Shaw, Husband.
The death toll has risen to 78 and about 150 people remained unaccounted for.
